Remote Eit Engineer information

What is a Remote EIT engineer?

A Remote EIT (Engineer-in-Training) Engineer is an early-career engineering professional who works remotely, often from home or outside a traditional office setting. EITs have typically passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and are working towards obtaining their Professional Engineer (PE) license. Their responsibilities may include assisting with design, analysis, project management, and technical documentation under the supervision of licensed engineers. Working remotely, they use digital collaboration tools to communicate with teams and contribute to engineering projects across various industries. This role is ideal for those seeking flexibility while gaining valuable engineering experience.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Remote EIT engineer?

To thrive as a Remote EIT Engineer, you need a bachelor's degree in engineering, strong problem-solving abilities, and an EIT certification. Familiarity with CAD software, project management tools, and remote collaboration platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualifications ensure effective project delivery, seamless teamwork, and professional growth in a remote engineering environment.

How does a Remote EIT engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams and manage communication challenges?

As a Remote EIT (Engineer-in-Training) Engineer, effective collaboration with on-site teams is usually achieved through regular virtual meetings, cloud-based project management tools, and clear documentation. One common challenge is ensuring timely communication, especially when dealing with different time zones or urgent site issues. Successful remote EIT Engineers proactively schedule check-ins, clarify expectations, and utilize collaboration platforms to stay aligned with project goals. Building strong relationships with team members and being responsive to feedback are key to overcoming remote work barriers in this role.

Job description

A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a Lead Engineer - Major Projects Group, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of utility-scale energy infrastructure. Serving as the engineering lead during project development, you'll work directly with Owners, permitting agencies, engineering consultants, and internal teams to transform early-stage concepts into buildable, permitted projects ready for execution.

Your day may involve evaluating potential project sites, developing conceptual engineering solutions, leading permitting strategies, reviewing third-party engineering deliverables, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and identifying engineering risks and opportunities before construction begins. Working across renewable energy, battery energy storage (BESS), gas generation, and data center power infrastructure, you'll help establish the technical foundation that drives successful project execution.

You'll collaborate closely with Engineering, Estimating, Supply Chain, Project Management, Construction, and Owners to ensure projects are technically sound, permit-ready, and positioned for successful delivery.

STEP INTO THE ROLE

  • Lead early-stage engineering and site development efforts for utility-scale renewable energy, gas generation, battery energy storage (BESS), and data center power infrastructure projects.
  • Develop conceptual engineering solutions, preliminary Bills of Material (BOMs), and technical recommendations that support competitive project development.
  • Lead permitting efforts by coordinating applications, agency communications, compliance activities, and project approvals with federal, state, and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Owners, Engineers of Record (EOR), permitting agencies, utility providers, environmental consultants, and engineering partners.
  • Review Owner specifications, engineering studies, design packages, and third-party proposals to identify technical risks, opportunities, and constructability improvements.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables across internal engineering disciplines, design consultants, permitting partners, and equipment suppliers to maintain project schedules and quality objectives.
  • Support utility interconnection, permitting, and power purchase agreement (PPA) activities by coordinating technical submittals and responding to Owner and utility requests.
  • Conduct site visits, engineering reviews, and constructability assessments throughout project development and execution.
  • Support estimating and proposal development by defining engineering scope, preparing conceptual quantities, evaluating technical risk, and improving proposal competitiveness.
  • Mentor technical staff while promoting engineering best practices, code compliance, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance during contract development, engineering reviews, and project planning activities.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for Preconstruction, Operations, and Owners throughout project development.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited college.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.
  • Six or more years of progressive engineering, engineering leadership, construction, or project development experience supporting utility-scale energy or industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts across project development, permitting, or project execution.

WHAT SETS YOU APART

  • Experience supporting data center power infrastructure, on-site generation, or utility-scale gas generation projects.
  • Working knowledge of permitting processes including air quality, environmental, land use, building, utility, and electrical permits.
  • Experience working directly with Owners, Engineers of Record (EOR), permitting agencies, utilities, and regulatory authorities throughout project development.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection processes, FERC, NERC, and regional ISO/RTO requirements.
  • Experience supporting EPC project delivery, engineering consulting, owner's engineering, or utility-scale infrastructure development.
  • Strong understanding of conceptual engineering, constructability, technical risk evaluation, and project development strategy.
  • Ability to independently lead technical discussions while balancing engineering quality, permitting requirements, project schedules, and business objectives.

HOW WE INVEST IN YOU

  • Competitive pay
  • 100% employer paid HDHP insurance premiums for employees
  • 401(k) with company match
  • HSA and FSA options
  • Dental and Vision insurance
  • Education Assistance (Tuition Reimbursement)
  • Work/Life balance
  • Employee/Family focused culture
  • Gym on site
  • And more!
