ABOUT THE POSITION
Civil Engineer Project Manager | Bedford, NH | Hybrid
VHB's Bedford, NH office is looking for an experienced Civil Engineer - Project Manager to join our growing Land Development team and help shape the future of communities across New Hampshire and New England region. From our Bedford Farms Drive location, more than 90 professionals-including nearly 50 New Hampshire-licensed engineers-partner with public and private clients to deliver impactful projects that strengthen local economies, enhance quality of life, and protect vital environmental resources. You'll collaborate closely with in-house experts in transportation, environmental permitting, survey, and planning to deliver integrated solutions for municipal clients, institutional campuses, mixed-use and commercial developments, and other community-focused projects.
Responsibilities
  • Work within an integrated team of engineers, environmental scientists, and landscape architects to develop site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a wide range of public and private projects with a focus on sustainability and resiliency
  • Support the preparation of design plans from schematic design through construction documents, prepare permit applications and supporting materials, and write technical report.
  • Assist in the preparation of permitting, design, and construction documents
  • Manage tasks and projects and monitor project financial performance
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop and manage model-based design deliverables, including surfaces, grading models, pipe networks, and plan/profile production, ensuring consistency between design models and construction documents
  • Perform and oversee stormwater management technical design, including hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, water quality treatment design, and compliance with the NHDES Alteration of Terrain (AoT) regulations, NH Stormwater Manual, and applicable local ordinances
  • Support business development and client relations-building activities
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Help support the planning coordinating work activities with the Land Development team

Skills and Attributes
  • Ability to think critically and creatively in a team-focused environment
  • Ability to prepare and deliver clear, effective public presentations to municipal boards, regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, and clients, including participation in public hearings and workshops
  • Experience in project and client relationship management
  • Experience preparing graphics and maps
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, HydroCAD, and StormCAD experience
  • Self-motivated work ethic, with a strong attention to detail

Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering required, Master's degree a plus
  • 5-8+ years experience of professional site/civil engineering experience required, including consulting/private sector experience
  • P.E. licensure required or ability to obtain within 6 month
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
