Job description

Atlas Excavating is hiring an experienced Pipe Foreman to lead underground utility crews on heavy civil projects across Central Indiana. We are a long-established contractor founded in 1981, and we specialize in the kind of work that requires real field leadership: deep sewer installation, wet excavation, rock removal, dewatering, live sewer connections, and bypass pumping. Atlas's edge is not low price. It is execution under difficult field conditions.

If you can run a crew, read plans and grades, solve problems in the field, and keep work moving safely and productively, we want to talk.

What you'll do

  • Lead pipe crews on heavy civil underground utility projects
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, grades, and elevations
  • Coordinate daily work with superintendents, operators, inspectors, subcontractors, and project teams
  • Maintain production while holding the line on safety and quality
  • Identify and solve field problems quickly and professionally
  • Help train and develop crew members
  • Build organized, accountable crews that can execute difficult work consistently

What we're looking for

  • Foreman or crew leadership experience in underground utility construction
  • Strong working knowledge of storm, sanitary, and water installation
  • Ability to read plans, manage grades/elevations, and direct field execution
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and trench/jobsite safety practices
  • Good judgment, accountability, and the ability to lead under pressure
  • Someone who takes pride in running safe, productive jobs the right way

Why Atlas

  • Established heavy civil contractor with a strong reputation and stable leadership since 1981
  • Core work includes technically difficult underground utility projects that many contractors avoid
  • Work is concentrated in Central Indiana, with growth north of I-70
  • Management values execution, judgment, and long-term reputation

What we offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Company truck
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • 401(k) with generous company match
  • Discretionary profit-sharing contribution
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid holidays
  • A management team that supports the field and expects high standards

Apply if you're an experienced underground utility leader who wants meaningful work, strong backing, and the chance to run serious jobs with a serious company.

Atlas is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran, disability, and/or housing status.
