What is a city superintendent?

City Superintendents are municipal officials responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and administration of a city's public works and services. Their duties often include managing city departments such as streets, sanitation, water, parks, and sometimes utilities. They ensure compliance with local regulations, supervise staff, coordinate projects, and help develop budgets. City Superintendents work closely with other municipal leaders to ensure efficient delivery of public services and the safety of community infrastructure.

How does a city superintendent typically collaborate with different municipal departments to ensure smooth city operations?

A City Superintendent works closely with various municipal departments such as public works, parks, sanitation, and utilities to coordinate city services and maintenance projects. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential for fostering teamwork and maintaining operational continuity across departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a city superintendent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a City Superintendent, you need strong leadership abilities, knowledge of municipal operations, budgeting skills, and typically a degree in public administration or a related field. • Coordinate with Assistant Superintendents, PMs, and PEs to ensure schedule and quality goals are met
• Supervise framing crews and trade partners, managing sequencing and site logistics

• Represent the GC in field coordination with ownership, subs, and city officials

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent on ground-up multifamily or podium projects
• Strong infill project background preferred (urban sites, framing, tight site conditions)
• Comfortable running multiple adjacent parcels in tandem
• Proficient with Procore and digital construction tools
• Experience leading field teams and supervising Assistant Superintendents
• Based in Los Angeles or willing to commit to North LA County market

Compensation + Benefits:

• Truck allowance or vehicle reimbursement
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• 401(k) retirement plan
• PTO + paid holidays
• Long-term opportunity to build out a pipeline in the LA region
