Reporting Structure: Associate V.P. for Information Technology & CIO
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Decision Support Services leads the Decision Support Services unit within the Center for Information Technology, overseeing the business intelligence, data governance support, and analytics functions that serve the University's decision-making needs. Reporting directly to the CIO, the Director implements CIO-directed data and analytics priorities, advances enterprise reporting capabilities, and manages the operational functions of the DSS unit in support of institutional goals across academic, administrative, and operational dimensions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Governance & Standards
The Director supports the institution's data governance program within CIT, coordinating with designated data stewards, the Data Governance Campus Community, and institutional stakeholders under the direction of the CIO to advance consistent, reliable, and compliant data practices across the University:
  • Supports the development and maintenance of institutional data standards, definitions, and classification frameworks under CIO-approved governance direction
  • Coordinates with departmental data stewards to promote consistent data usage, quality assurance, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations
  • Prepares data documentation, standards guides, and governance resources that support institutional reporting and audit readiness
  • Participates in the Data Governance Campus Community and contributes technical and analytical expertise to cross-divisional governance work
  • Advises the CIO on data handling practices relevant to regulatory requirements, including FERPA, GLBA, and applicable state and federal data protection standards

Business Intelligence & Reporting
The Director manages the DSS unit's business intelligence and reporting functions, building and maintaining the analytics infrastructure that delivers institutional intelligence in alignment with university-established priorities and stakeholder requirements:
  • Designs, builds, and maintains Power BI dashboards and enterprise reporting solutions aligned to university-established priorities and stakeholder requirements
  • Translates business requirements from functional departments into scalable data models, report architectures, and analytics deliverables
  • Ensures data accuracy, performance, and reliability across all reporting environments and published dashboards
  • Maintains documentation for reporting solutions, including data dictionaries, methodology notes, and user guidance
  • Supports the development of predictive analytics capabilities in alignment with university-established priorities, advancing enrollment management, student success intervention, financial forecasting, and institutional planning

Enterprise Applications Support
The Director provides analytical and technical support for enterprise application reporting modules in coordination with the Department of Enterprise Applications & Solutions, focusing on data integrity, reporting functionality, and integration of data flows within the CIT service delivery framework:
  • Manages support processes for enterprise application reporting modules and analytics-related service requests within service level agreements established by CIT leadership
  • Troubleshoots system, reporting, and integration issues in coordination with technical and functional teams across CIT and institutional business units, escalating decisions with policy or institutional implications to the CIO
  • Develops and maintains documentation for reporting functionality, data outputs, and analytical processes associated with enterprise platforms
  • Surfaces recommendations to the CIO on data quality, reporting design, and integration architecture considerations for new platform implementations and system upgrades

Implementations & Project Management
The Director coordinates analytics and reporting components of system implementations, working within CIT project structures to ensure that data governance and reporting requirements are addressed throughout the project lifecycle:
  • Coordinates reporting and data governance workstreams within enterprise system implementations, enhancements, and upgrades
  • Develops project plans, manages testing timelines, and communicates implementation status to stakeholders for analytics-related project components
  • Oversees data migration validation, integration data quality review, and reporting configuration associated with system initiatives
  • Conducts post-implementation review of data quality and reporting outcomes, documenting findings to support continuous improvement

Collaboration & Operational Support
The Director works across institutional departments to identify data and reporting needs, facilitate standards adoption, and support the University's data-informed decision-making culture within the framework of CIO-approved priorities:
  • Partners with campus departments to understand reporting requirements and implement solutions that support their operational and strategic objectives
  • Facilitates adoption of university-approved data governance standards, reporting tools, and institutional data practices among campus stakeholders
  • Supports continuous improvement of institutional decision-support capabilities through tool evaluation, process refinement, and user engagement, surfacing recommendations to the CIO for direction
  • Contributes to the CIT IT governance framework by surfacing data quality, reporting, and analytics considerations in policy and standards review processes

End-User Training Coordination
The Director coordinates end-user training for enterprise systems and reporting tools in partnership with the other departments of CIT, ensuring that faculty, staff, and administrators have the knowledge and proficiency to use institutional technology effectively:
  • Coordinates with IT Services, Enterprise Applications & Solutions, and Security & Integration Services to identify training needs associated with enterprise systems, reporting platforms, and data tools
  • Develops and maintains training materials, user guides, and reference documentation for DSS-supported systems and reporting solutions
  • Organizes and facilitates training sessions, workshops, and onboarding experiences for end-users engaging with business intelligence platforms, data governance standards, and enterprise application reporting functions
  • Maintains awareness of system updates, new feature releases, and process changes across CIT-supported platforms, coordinating timely training updates in collaboration with relevant CIT departments
  • Surfaces training gaps and user proficiency concerns to the CIO with recommendations for addressing institutional readiness across the campus community
