Job description

Circ's flexible technology is powering the clean closet and helping the fashion industry make monumental strides toward a truly circular eco-economy.
We've pioneered a technology that can recycle polycotton - what the majority of our clothes are made of - into reusable fibers. In essence: our process takes textile waste and turns it into materials that your most beloved fashion labels can use for tomorrow's clothes.
Circ is a registered B Corp Company, named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies and a finalist in the Earthshot Prize. We're unafraid to tackle the hardest challenges and we set ambitious goals that ensure our hard work will make the maximum impact.
Overview
The Director, Marketing will lead Circ's brand, marketing, communications, and product marketing efforts as the company scales its position in sustainable materials. This role will shape Circ's market narrative, build awareness, support commercial growth, and help establish Circ as a category leader in circular materials.
This is a highly visible role in a fast-paced startup environment where success requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution. Working within a lean team, this person will help develop strategy while also rolling up their sleeves to create content, launch campaigns, support events, manage agencies, and drive day-to-day execution.
The ideal candidate brings experience across brand, marketing, communications, and product marketing, with the ability to translate complex technical and sustainability concepts into compelling stories that drive awareness, credibility, and commercial momentum.
*Based in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone, with the ability to travel approximately 30% of the time for conferences, trade shows, and events across the U.S. and Europe. For the right candidate, we may also consider individuals based in Europe.
Responsibilities
Brand, Marketing & Communications
  • Provide leadership in brand, marketing, and communications strategy from ideation to execution in order to make Circ the 1st choice in circular materials.
  • Develop company-level brand and marketing strategies that support Circ's business objectives, commercial growth, fundraising milestones, and category leadership.
  • Build brand awareness and drive commercial engagement through impactful campaigns.
  • Shape clear, compelling narratives around Circ's technology, material benefits, sustainability value proposition, and role in the future of circular textiles.
  • Develop integrated communications strategies across PR, digital, social media, events, executive visibility, partner announcements, thought leadership, and owned channels.

Product Marketing, Go-to-Market & Commercial Enablement
  • Develop the product marketing strategy in alignment with business objectives and through collaboration with stakeholders across business development, product, technology, manufacturing, and commercial teams.
  • Plan and execute marketing campaigns for product launches, key messaging moments, strategic partnerships, industry events, brand activations, and company announcements.
  • Build a suite of marketing collateral, sales enablement materials, pitch decks, case studies, product messaging, customer presentations, website content, and communications assets.
  • Support demand-building initiatives that increase awareness, preference, and adoption of Circ's materials across the global textile value chain.

Market Development, Partnerships & Growth
  • Conduct market research, white space analysis, competitive analysis, and opportunity identification to inform Circ's positioning, category strategy, product narratives, and commercial priorities.
  • Identify, develop, and support strategic brand partnerships, collaborations, and market-facing moments that increase Circ's visibility and credibility.
  • Partner with global and regional stakeholders to adapt messaging, campaigns, and market development strategies for different audiences, geographies, and commercial priorities.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by continuously monitoring emerging circularity trends, textile innovation, branded materials, AI-enabled marketing tools, competitive activity, and broader market shifts.

Execution, Operations & Agency Management
  • Operate effectively in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment, using creative and efficient approaches to deliver high-quality work with limited resources.
  • Effectively manage external agencies, contractors, and creative partners across brand, PR, communications, content, design, digital, social, events, and campaign execution.
  • Serve as a strong internal lead for agency work, including setting clear briefs, managing priorities, providing actionable feedback, and ensuring high-quality execution.
  • Use AI tools and emerging workflows where appropriate to improve speed, quality, research, content development, workflow efficiency, and marketing execution.
  • Manage multiple cross-functional priorities while maintaining high standards for quality, clarity, and brand consistency.

Team Leadership & Function Building
  • Support the growth of Circ's marketing function by helping build processes, workflows, team capabilities, and standards for execution as the company scales.
  • Create clear roles, priorities, rhythms, and expectations for the marketing function and its partners.
  • Lead, coach, and develop small internal team, agency partners, and contractors to deliver excellent work.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, speed, commercial orientation, and continuous learning.
  • Partner effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure marketing is tightly connected to company strategy.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or related field. MBA preferred.
  • 8+ years of marketing experience within high-growth, category-defining, branded materials, B2B, B2B2C, or consumer-facing businesses.
  • Proven experience leading brand, marketing, communications, product marketing, and go-to-market strategies that drive business growth and market adoption.
  • Experience launching, scaling, or repositioning brands, products, categories, ingredient brands, or commercial offerings.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical, sustainability, or industry concepts into compelling narratives, campaigns, and commercial messaging.
  • Experience conducting market research, competitive analysis, market development, and positioning initiatives.
  • Experience managing agencies, contractors, and external partners while delivering high-quality marketing programs and creative output.
  • Experience within fashion, textiles, specialty materials, sustainability, circularity, branded materials, or related industries preferred.
  • Strong business acumen, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence customers, partners, media, and senior leadership.
  • Scrappy, adaptable, and comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment. Experience leveraging AI tools to improve research, content development, and workflow efficiency is a plus.
