Job description

WHAT MAKES US EPIC?
At the core of Epic's success are talented, passionate people. Epic prides itself on creating a collaborative, welcoming, and creative environment. Whether it's building award-winning games or crafting engine technology that enables others to make visually stunning interactive experiences, we're always innovating.
Being Epic means being a part of a team that continually strives to do right by our community and users. We're constantly innovating to raise the bar of engine and game development.
CINEMATICS
What We Do
In the Cinematics Team, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in realtime. We are in the early stages of this growth in realtime quality work and we are growing quickly and implementing various techniques and ideas to improve what can be done in Unreal Engine. Our team is one of the few at the forefront of delivering innovation, through cinematic quality visuals.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is searching for a collaborative Cinematic Director to join our close-knit team. We have been shaping Fortnite's cinematic narrative for nearly a decade, and we are looking for someone to join our small team of directors to craft high-impact projects. This is not a standalone "department head" role. We work as a tight creative unit, and the successful candidate will value shared authorship over solo control. If you love the process of brainstorming, quickly pitching story ideas, and collaboratively working with leads across every department to realize a vision, this is the place for you. You will work alongside two existing directors to manage a high volume of trailers-typically juggling 2 to 4 at any given time-while synthesizing notes from Marketing, Art Direction, and Game Direction stakeholders. We are looking for someone eager to contribute their own voice while respecting the team dynamic. This is a unique opportunity for an artist passionate about storytelling who wants to dive into a high-energy, collaborative pipeline rather than "running" a show on their own.
In this role, you will
  • Collaborate closely with our two existing directors to define the creative vision and visual storytelling for Fortnite and other Epic trailers.
  • Participate in every step of the process: from initial brainstorming and rapid pitching to final delivery.
  • Synthesize feedback from multiple stakeholders-including Marketing, Art Directors, and Game Directors-into actionable direction.
  • Work across multiple trailers simultaneously, contributing to animation, layout, lighting, and FX execution.
  • Collaborate with the Animation Director to direct motion capture sessions and oversee scene assembly in Unreal Engine 5 using Sequencer and Control Rig.
  • Communicate shot design and pacing through visual tools like draw-overs and rip-o-matic footage.
  • Research and prototype emerging tools to keep our small, efficient team on the cutting edge. Communicate shot design and pacing through visual tools like draw-overs and rip-o-matic footage.
What we're looking for
  • Demonstrated experience in cinematic direction with a strong portfolio of short-form or trailer work.
  • A highly collaborative mindset; someone who thrives on brainstorming, giving/receiving feedback, and shared creative ownership.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at once and pivot quickly when feedback or priorities shift.
  • Strong technical proficiency in Unreal Engine (Sequencer/Control Rig).
  • Experience working with motion capture data.
  • Ability to act as a creative bridge between technical departments (Layout, Animation, FX) and creative stakeholders.
  • A "team-first" attitude-we value how we work together just as much as the final result.
EPIC JOB + EPIC BENEFITS = EPIC LIFE
Our intent is to cover all things that are medically necessary and improve the quality of life. We pay 100% of the premiums for both you and your dependents. We offer unlimited PTO and sick time and recognize individuals for 7 years of employment with a paid sabbatical.
ABOUT US
