Job description

Psychiatrist (MD/DO) โ€“ Remote Consulting Physician

This is a 100% remote consulting role supporting BHCโ€™s psychiatric nurse practitioners with medication management. The position does not include direct client care, an assigned caseload, prescribing, or on-call responsibilities.

Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC) is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide clinical consultation and guidance to our psychiatric nurse practitioners. This flexible opportunity is ideal for a physician who wants to support providers and strengthen medication-management practices without maintaining a client caseload.

Responsibilities
  • Consult with psychiatric nurse practitioners regarding medication management and complex cases
  • Provide guidance on medication selection, dosing, side effects, interactions, monitoring, and treatment alternatives
  • Support evidence-based psychiatric practices and clinical decision-making
  • Help identify when additional evaluation, referral, or a higher level of care may be appropriate
  • Provide provider education and mentorship
  • Assist with medication-management policies, protocols, and quality-improvement initiatives
  • Advise clinical leadership on psychiatric services and patient-safety considerations

The consulting psychiatrist will not evaluate or treat clients directly, prescribe medication to BHC clients, or maintain a caseload. BHCโ€™s psychiatric nurse practitioners will remain responsible for evaluating their clients, making and documenting treatment decisions, and prescribing within their authorized scope of practice.

Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Active medical license in good standing
  • Wisconsin medical license or eligibility for Wisconsin licensure
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric medication management
  • Experience consulting with or mentoring psychiatric nurse practitioners
  • Experience with complex psychiatric cases
  • Effective communication, consultation, and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary behavioral health practices
Schedule and Compensation

This is a flexible, part-time consulting opportunity averaging approximately five hours per week. The schedule may include planned provider consultations, case discussions, and ongoing advisory support. Actual hours may vary based on BHCโ€™s needs.

Competitive compensation will be based on experience, responsibilities, and anticipated time commitment. Final terms will be established through a written consulting agreement.
