To thrive as a Cigar Salesperson, you need strong product knowledge of cigars and tobacco, customer service skills, and often retail experience. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management tools, and sometimes certifications in tobacco sales compliance are important. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and a passion for cigars help build trust with customers and enhance sales. What is a Cigar job?

A Cigar job typically involves roles in the cigar industry, such as cigar roller, sales associate, tobacconist, or quality control inspector. These positions focus on crafting, selling, or maintaining the quality of cigars. Employees may work in cigar lounges, retail stores, or manufacturing facilities. Knowledge of tobacco, cigar brands, and proper storage conditions is often essential.

AspectCigarPipe Fitter

Work EnvironmentLuxury stores, cigar lounges, manufacturing facilitiesConstruction sites, industrial plants, manufacturing facilities

The skills, credentials, and work environments differ significantly, reflecting their distinct industries and job functions.

What are cigars?

Cigars are tightly rolled bundles of dried and fermented tobacco leaves that are intended to be smoked. Unlike cigarettes, cigars are generally larger, use whole-leaf tobacco, and are often associated with leisurely or celebratory occasions. The flavor, size, and strength of a cigar can vary widely depending on the type of tobacco and the region in which it is grown. Cigar smoking has a long history and is considered by some to be an artisanal experience, with aficionados appreciating the craftsmanship involved in production. However, it is important to note that cigars do carry health risks similar to other tobacco products.

What are some common challenges faced by Cigar Retail Associates, and how can they effectively address them?

Cigar Retail Associates often encounter challenges such as educating customers about different cigar varieties, maintaining compliance with age verification laws, and preserving product freshness. To address these, associates should stay knowledgeable about cigar brands and storage practices, ensure strict adherence to legal regulations, and provide excellent customer service through tailored recommendations. Building rapport with customers and participating in ongoing product training can also enhance their expertise and effectiveness in the role.

Job description

Nicabanos Cigar Lounge, Miami Beach’s premier luxury cigar destination, is seeking a refined and service-driven Maître D’ to lead our front-of-house operations and support our floor staff in delivering a seamless, elevated guest experience.

About the Role

As the Maître D’, you are the heart of the guest experience at Nicabanos. This role requires a balance of grace, control, and leadership — overseeing the guest journey from the moment of arrival to departure, while working hand-in-hand with the service team to maintain the pace, flow, and exceptional standards of a luxury environment.

You will be responsible not only for greeting and seating guests but for orchestrating the entire floor — guiding the rhythm of service, supporting the servers and bartenders in real-time, anticipating issues before they arise, and ensuring that every guest interaction is polished, personal, and memorable.

Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Experience & Hosting
  • Serve as the first point of contact for guests with a warm, welcoming, and composed presence

  • Manage reservations, walk-ins, and guest waitlists using platforms like OpenTable or Resy

  • Recognize VIPs and regular guests, noting preferences and special occasions

  • Maintain a calm and controlled front-of-house presence, even in high-volume hours

  • Ensure guests are continuously attended to and feel valued throughout their visit

Floor Coordination & Service Support
  • Act as the floor conductor, ensuring service runs smoothly across all sections

  • Proactively assist servers with table needs, guest inquiries, or special requests

  • Monitor table timing, guest pacing, and server efficiency

  • Step in to adjust floor flow or guest seating to maintain a premium experience

  • Communicate closely with bar and kitchen staff to align on guest timing and service quality

  • Uphold and enforce service standards, presentation guidelines, and luxury hospitality tone

Team Collaboration & Culture
  • Support training and coaching of new front-of-house staff

  • Lead by example, setting a tone of professionalism, courtesy, and consistency

  • Handle guest concerns or service recovery with diplomacy and discretion

  • Assist with special events, lounge buyouts, and private bookings

Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of luxury hospitality experience (fine dining, private clubs, cigar lounges, or 5-star hotels preferred)

  • Strong background in floor supervision, guest hosting, and service coordination

  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and conflict resolution skills

  • Familiarity with upscale cigar culture and beverage service a plus (training available)

  • Experience with reservation platforms and guest CRM systems

  • Impeccable grooming, professional demeanor, and attention to detail

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required
