Job description

Overview

NV5 is seeking to fill several Assistant Structure Representative positions to support our work across California.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  • Perform daily field inspection of bridge construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications
  • Prepare daily field inspection reports based on the on-site construction activities
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications and other construction document
  • Review submittals including shop drawings, product data, test samples, construction work plans
  • Ensure approved materials are received and correctly incorporated into the project.
  • Monitor, coordinate and enforce construction compliance with contract documents, safety regulations and environmental documents
  • Identify non-compliant work and take appropriate action to bring it back into compliance
  • Immediately report critical issues and/or possible delays to supervisor
  • Monitor and document all construction equipment, personnel and activities.
  • Assist Structure Representative and Resident Engineer with documenting the project progress.
  • Perform calculations from the plans verifying location, layout, line and grade of various elements
  • Respond to Contractor's Request for Information (RFI)
  • Ensure all changes and/or modifications are noted on the final plans
  • Facilitate safety meetings and other team meetings
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with various contractors, entities, clients, and regulatory agencies, e.g., sampling and testing of construction materials, construction staking and surveying
  • Perform constructability review of contract design plans
  • Prepare reports, opinions, and recommendations for review by team leaders prior to submission to clients concerning the structures.
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes and technical adequacy of design and construction.
  • General office administration, including report reproduction, collation and deliveries will also be expected.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with heavy civil transportation projects, including bridge and/or structural construction
  • Caltrans construction methods and practices, minimum of 5 years' experience
  • Relevant past work experience performing field engineering tasks of increasing responsibility
  • Knowledge of stress analysis, structural mechanics, and strength of materials.
  • A thorough understanding of Cal-OSHA practices and procedures.Knowledge of Caltrans and Greenbook construction practices and the physical characteristics and properties of various bridge construction materials including concrete.
  • Experience in the following areas: foundations, pile driving and CIDH piles, concrete prestressing, bridge deck construction, cast-in-place wall construction, falsework, and shoring.
  • Ability to use an automatic level and transit for the purpose of verifying line and grade.
  • Thorough understanding of Caltrans field methods, practices, and construction office procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • EIT or EIT in progress
  • Business Development experience
  • Local agency and rail experience
  • Storm water Pollution and Prevention Plan implementation
  • Multi discipline and agency coordination

The pay range for this California position is $104,000- $176,800 per year. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. .Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
