What is a church residency?

A church residency is a structured, hands-on training program within a church designed to prepare individuals for vocational ministry. Residents typically work alongside church staff, gaining practical experience in teaching, leadership, pastoral care, and church operations. These programs often last from one to two years and may include mentorship, theological education, and opportunities to lead various ministries. Church residencies help participants discern their calling and develop the skills needed for future roles in church leadership or ministry.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a church residency?

During a Church Residency program, you can expect to engage in a variety of hands-on ministry experiences such as assisting with worship services, leading small groups, organizing community outreach events, and supporting pastoral care initiatives. Residents often rotate through different ministry areas to gain a well-rounded perspective of church operations. You'll frequently collaborate with church staff, volunteers, and congregation members, offering valuable support while also receiving mentorship and training. This immersive environment is designed to help you develop practical leadership skills and prepare for future roles within church ministry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a church resident, and why are they important?

Familiarity with church management software, worship planning tools, and digital communication platforms is increasingly important.
