Church Music Production information

What is church music production?

Church music production involves planning, creating, and managing the musical aspects of church services and events. This includes selecting songs, arranging music, coordinating with musicians and vocalists, and handling audio technology like sound mixing and recording. The goal is to enhance worship experiences and support the message of the service through music. Church music producers may also oversee rehearsals and collaborate with church leaders to ensure that the music aligns with the spiritual and thematic focus of each gathering.

What are some common challenges faced in church music production, and how can they be managed?

Church music production often involves coordinating with volunteers of varying skill levels, managing tight rehearsal schedules, and adapting to different worship styles. A common challenge is ensuring smooth communication between the music director, audio/visual team, and performers to deliver a cohesive worship experience. To manage these challenges, it's helpful to establish clear rehearsal plans, maintain open communication channels, and provide training for volunteers to become comfortable with technical equipment and software. Flexibility and a collaborative spirit are key to creating a positive and effective production environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in church music production, and why are they important?

Thriving in Church Music Production requires strong musical proficiency, audio engineering knowledge, and familiarity with worship music styles, often supported by experience or relevant coursework in music production. Proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs), sound mixing consoles, and music arrangement software is typically necessary. Excellent teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills help coordinate with worship leaders, musicians, and technical staff. These skills ensure that worship services run smoothly, providing a meaningful and technically sound musical experience for congregations.

Job description

CLC is a growing Assemblies of God church in the Dayton area, and we’re looking for a Worship Leader who’s ready to step into a senior creative role — not just fill a slot on the stage. This is a chance to shape the worship culture of a multigenerational church, build a team from the ground up, and leave a real mark on how thousands of people encounter God week after week.
This role sits within the Weekend Services department and works day-to-day in close partnership with the Weekend Services Team Leader. At the same time, the Worship Leader participates directly in CLC’s senior pastoral team — bringing a creative and spiritual voice to church-wide vision, not just Sunday logistics.
If you’re a strong communicator, a natural team builder, and someone who leads from genuine spiritual depth — not just stage presence — this role was built for you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Lead Worship
  • Serve as the primary worship leader for all weekend and mid-week services
  • Lead worship for high-impact moments — Easter, Christmas, baptisms, conferences, community outreach
  • Collaborate with the Lead Pastor and Weekend Services Team Leader to align worship with the church’s spiritual direction
  • Participate directly in senior pastoral team meetings as a voice on church-wide vision and direction
Build the Team
  • Recruit and develop volunteer musicians, vocalists, and artists across CLC ministries
  • Lead weekly rehearsals and actively invest in volunteers’ musical and spiritual growth
  • Launch and run a worship resident/intern program to develop the next generation of worship leaders
  • Set annual goals for the worship ministry and drive them to completion
Collaborate Across Ministries
  • Partner with StudentLife (MS/HS), Young Adults, Celebrate Recovery, and other ministries
  • Work with production and technical arts to ensure sound, lighting, and visuals serve the room
  • Support CLC Worship’s digital and social presence, including streaming and online content
Run the Operation
  • Own the worship schedule through Planning Center
  • Manage charts, practice videos, MIDI cues, and music files
  • Steward the worship department budget in partnership with the Weekend Services Team Leader and Executive Pastor
  • Keep all worship equipment maintained and ready
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We want someone with real experience and real faith — not one or the other. Here's what we're looking for:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Music, Worship, Theology, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of worship leading in a large church setting (1,500+ congregation)
  • Proven track record leading a team of paid musicians and vocalists
  • Deep understanding of worship theology and how to apply it in a congregational setting
  • Fluency with Planning Center, ProPresenter, DAW platforms, and IEM/live production workflows
  • MIDI programming and chart arrangement experience
  • Strong communicator — you can connect with volunteers, staff, and leadership at every level
Bonus points for:
  • Graduate-level study in Worship, Theology, or a related field
  • Original songwriting, arrangement, or music production experience
THE PERSON
Beyond the resume, we're looking for someone who:
  • Has an authentic, growing relationship with Jesus — not just a professional one
  • Leads with humility and serves from a genuine pastoral heart
  • Can hold their own in a high-visibility, high-pressure environment without losing themselves
  • Aligns with CLC's Statement of Faith and the Assemblies of God tradition
  • Knows how to build trust across a diverse team and a diverse congregation
SCHEDULE amp; LOGISTICS
  • Standard weekly schedule: Monday–Wednesday + Saturday–Sunday
  • Evening rehearsals and midweek services are part of the role
  • Extended hours during Christmas, Easter, and other high-demand seasons
  • Some local travel for off-site ministry events
BENEFITS
  • Medical, Dental, Vision
  • Employer paid Life amp; Disability Coverage (Short-Term and Long-Term)
  • 14 Paid Holidays
  • Generous Paid Time Off Schedule
  • Retirement Plan with 6% Employer Match
  • Incredible Team Environment
Why Join CLC?
CLC is a place where ministry and excellence aren't in tension — we expect both. You'll be part of a church that values creativity, cares about people, and is serious about what God is doing in the Dayton area and beyond. This isn't a maintenance role. It's a build role.
