Scottsdale Christian Academy (SCA) is a Christ-Centered covenant Christian school in metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. First founded in 1968, SCA has maintained its core mission of maximizing the God-given potential of each student, preparing them to live lives of distinction, by impacting the world for Jesus Christ. We provide a Christian worldview education with academic excellence, arts, and athletics. We are a member of the CESA council of schools and are accredited by Cognia and Exemplary Accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). SCA seeks Christian professionals who are Christ-centered, competent, compassionate, relational, of high character, and who are impassioned in their field. SCA conducts pre-employment and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.
SCA is seeking a Robotics Coach and STEM Teacher to teach engineering classes, to lead our growing robotics program, and to oversee our First Robotics Competition (FRC) and First Tech Challenge (FTC) teams. As a STEM teacher, this individual will apply creative and valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum aims and make a positive impact on 6-12 grade student learning. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about Christian education and is called to work with youth, desiring them to grow in their understanding of S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) with a biblical perspective. Beyond preparing lessons/projects and grading assignments, this applicant will also take on routine responsibilities common to all SCA teaching staff. Our teachers are responsible for fulfilling the mission of Scottsdale Christian by equipping minds through engaging, innovative instruction and nurturing hearts by mentoring young people as a spiritual leader and role model. This teacher will report directly to the Upper School Principal.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES:
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor?s Degree in a science, engineering or education-related field from an accredited college is required; Master?s Degree preferred.
- Past experience teaching S.T.E.M. related classes and coaching a robotics team preferred.
- State teaching certification preferred.
- Skills:
- Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods.
- Ability to develop authentic relationships with young adults
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage the classroom and lead a robotics team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem resolution skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
- Excellent organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Knowledge of FACTS a plus.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical Requirements:
- Bend, stoop, twist, turn, reach, lift up to 50 pounds, carry, pull, push, climb, and kneel, walking and standing approximately 50%-75% of the workday.
- Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and mentor the First Robotics Competition (FRC) and First Tech Challenge (FTC) teams, guiding students through design, build, testing, and competition preparation.
- Organize and supervise after-school robotics meetings, training sessions, events, and competitions throughout the year.
- Maintain and manage robotics tools, equipment, and spaces to ensure safe and effective use.
- Review and expand program offerings, pursue new initiatives and partnerships, and serve as an ambassador for the program in internal and external venues.
- Teach a variety of STEM classes and coordinate project-based learning activities for the Innovation and Creation Hub (Makerspace) based on the concepts of coding, circuitry and the engineering design process. Knowledge of 3-D printing, project-based learning, robotics, and laser cutters is also required.
- Demonstrate an interest in subject integration and applied learning. Partner with classroom teachers to enhance their current lessons and research potential lesson plans and use of the space for them.
- Develop and enhance a comprehensive K-12 curriculum working in conjunction with the elementary HUB instructor that provides a cohesive scope and sequence that can be adjusted and advanced over time.
- Establish and adjust course syllabi outlines and objectives by following curriculum guidelines and school goals.
- Employ a variety of instructional methods and materials that will creatively reach the whole student ? spiritual, mental, physical, social and emotional.
- Promote student engagement and inspire student leaders to participate in the growth of the program.
- Fulfill requirements to maintain Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) certification.
