Digital Content Specialist

Summary:   
The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for creating, curating, and managing engaging multimedia content that strengthens Charleston Southern University’s digital presence, enhances recruitment and retention efforts, and supports institutional storytelling through strategic social media, writing, and video production. This position plays a key role in showcasing the university experience through compelling visual and written storytelling, creative campaigns, and timely digital engagement across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, editor, and creative storyteller with the ability to produce meaningful content that connects with prospective students, current students, alumni, donors, and the broader university community. 

Position Scope: 

This is a full-time, exempt position directly reporting to the Content Director. The role requires a highly creative and organized individual who can produce high-quality written and multimedia content while strategically advancing the university’s digital engagement, communications, and storytelling initiatives. 

Work Performed:   

• Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with institutional goals and brand standards. 

• Plan, film, edit, and publish video content for social media platforms, web stories, campaigns, and promotional initiatives. 

• Capture authentic photography and b-roll footage that supports storytelling needs across university departments and programs. 

• Manage and maintain the university’s official social media channels with consistency, creativity, and strategic intent. 

• Write, edit, and publish compelling content for the university newsroom, blog, web features, and digital storytelling initiatives. 

• Conduct interviews and gather stories that highlight student success, academics, campus life, athletics, alumni impact, and university achievements. 

• Collaborate with the Content Director on creative messaging and copywriting for advertising campaigns, enrollment marketing initiatives, and brand storytelling efforts. 

• Monitor social media trends, platform updates, and emerging digital storytelling techniques to keep content fresh and relevant. 

• Track analytics and performance metrics to evaluate engagement, reach, audience growth, and ROI; provide regular reports and recommendations to the team. 

• Serve as the primary administrator for the university’s BucNation platform, managing campus communications, content updates, engagement strategies, and user support for the university community. 

• Support live event coverage and produce quick-turn content for major university events, athletics, student life, academic programs, and special initiatives. 

• Train, mentor, and guide student ambassadors and content interns who assist with social media and content creation efforts. 

• Maintain organized digital asset libraries for photography, video, and campaign materials. 

• Ensure all content reflects the mission, vision, and brand identity of the university. 

• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 

Education:  

Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, journalism, digital media, public relations, film production, English, or a related field preferred. 

Experience: Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office, and the ability to quickly learn and work with new computer software systems. Knowledge of social media platforms and editing applications is required. Experience in copywriting with strong editing acumen is also required. Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team. Well-developed time management and organizational skills is a must in this position. Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for multiple audiences and platforms. Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong understanding of current social media trends, platform best practices, analytics tools, and digital engagement strategies.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Salvation involves God's gracious redemption of individuals and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior by repentance and faith.

Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Christians are to be consistent with Scripture in their character and conduct. 
Diversity 

Genesis 1:27 “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Because all people are made in God’s divine image, they possess full dignity and are worthy of respect. Matthew 22:39 “‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Jesus’ command for us to love others as ourselves extends to all people. Revelation 7:9 “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb . . .” Charleston Southern University defines diversity as people groups varying in ethnic makeup, cultural background, age, language, educational and professional experience, ability, veteran and/or socioeconomic status. Human Sexuality 

Matthew 19:4-5 “ . . . [God] . . . made them at the beginning ‘male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’[.]” Sexuality is one of the ways the marriage covenant between a husband and a wife is sealed and expressed. Marriage is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards and the means for the procreation of the human race. All forms of sexual intimacy that occur outside the covenant of heterosexual marriage, even when consensual, are distortions of the holiness and beauty God intended for it. The promotion or practice of a homosexual lifestyle (including same-sex dating behaviors) is also contrary to theuniversity’s core values. The promotion of transgenderism fails to uphold the university’s core values.
