Job Title: Roman Catholic Religious Education Coordinator

Job Type: Part-Time (Approximately 20 Hours per Week)

Place of Performance:
Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. Services will be performed at the Eglin AFB Chapel, including the East Gate Chapel (EGC), West Gate Chapel (WGC), and other chapel-approved locations as required.

Period of Performance:
September through the first week of June annually (approximately 1,120 hours per year).

Summary

The Roman Catholic Religious Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering the Roman Catholic Religious Education Program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 at Eglin Air Force Base. The Coordinator manages sacramental preparation programs, supports faith formation activities, supervises volunteers and catechists, maintains program records, and serves as the primary liaison between chapel leadership, families, and volunteers while ensuring all activities comply with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the requirements of the Archdiocese for the Military Services.

Requirements
  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a letter of recommendation from a current or previous pastor.
  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Theological Studies, or a related field preferred. Equivalent education or religious training will be considered.
  • Preferred minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Roman Catholic Religious Education Coordinator or five (5) years teaching in a Roman Catholic Religious Education program.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) Catechist Certification within 30 days of contract award.
  • Must complete or possess VIRTUS (Protecting God's Children) training or an equivalent approved program.
  • Strong knowledge of Roman Catholic doctrine, sacramental preparation, and religious education curriculum.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers and working with children, youth, and families.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, PDF software, and database management.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to obtain all required Government background checks and installation access.
Duties
  • Coordinate and oversee the Roman Catholic Religious Education Program for grades K–12.
  • Plan and administer sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and related retreats.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support catechists, catechist aides, volunteers, and chaperones.
  • Maintain student registrations, volunteer records, attendance, sacramental records, and program databases.
  • Develop annual calendars, class schedules, program budgets, and continuity documentation.
  • Coordinate classroom activities, facility scheduling, transportation requests, and logistical support.
  • Prepare quarterly reports, after-action reports, annual budgets, and other required administrative documentation.
  • Attend chapel staff meetings, Roman Catholic Advisory Council meetings, and other required planning meetings.
  • Ensure all instructional materials and activities comply with Roman Catholic teachings and Archdiocese for the Military Services guidance.
  • Coordinate program publicity and communication with chapel leadership and participating families.
  • Open, prepare, secure, and maintain chapel facilities before and after Religious Education activities.
  • Evaluate Religious Education classes, support volunteer development, and recommend program improvements.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with chapel staff, volunteers, parents, and military personnel.
  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with the Statement of Work (SOW), Air Force policies, and applicable security requirements.
