Job description

JOB SUMMARY
To advise the Head Athletic Trainer in developing, coordinating, and administering a comprehensive medical sports program for University athletes.
CLASSIFICATION
This position is classified full-time staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in maintaining a program of preventive physical care for athletic teams; determines and ensures the acquisition of safety equipment and supplies applicable to respective sports;
  • Provide first aid treatment for participants of assigned sports; treats or refers injuries to physicians when appropriate; tapes and treats injuries prior to practices and athletic contests;
  • Counsel and educate athletes on nutrition and other life matters; monitors biomechanics and instructs players and coached on corrections;
  • Advise Head Athletic Trainer as requested and may instruct in an academic setting.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform other functions and duties as requested by Head Athletic Trainer, such as, but not limited to:
  • Perform minor maintenance of supplies and equipment;
  • Monitor inventory of supplies on a timely basis.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The Assistant Athletic Trainer must possess specific areas of knowledge, skill, and ability to be able to explain and/or demonstrate he/she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities. Furthermore, he/she must conduct such activities in light of the mission and purpose of Chowan University.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Performance evaluations are based on the incumbent’s ability to perform, in a timely, accurate, and otherwise positive manner, the essential and marginal functions of this job description. Proper discharge of duties will be measured in part by the number of mistakes made, the ability to work with other employees, and a demonstrated commitment to fulfilling the mission, purpose, and goals of Chowan University.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  1. Undergraduate degree required, Masters Degree preferred.
  2. NATABOC certification required, NC Athletic Training License required (or eligible).
  3. 1-2 years-experience as an athletic trainer.
  4. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills.
  6. STRENGTH: Medium – physical demand in excess of light work. May exert up to 20 or 50 pounds of force frequently.
