Summary of Job Duties:
The Extra Help Assistant-Library Student Worker is responsible for providing unskilled, semi-skilled labor or performing basic office tasks in a state agency or institution.
Extra Help Assistant-Library Student Worker positions are part-time, non-benefits-eligible positions within Ottenheimer Library responsible for supporting various library services and initiatives.
The position requires working 12-20 hours per week. Certain positions will require working nights and weekends. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Experience:
  • Must be currently enrolled at UA Little Rock;
  • Formal education of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Job Duties:
  • Check library materials in and out;
  • Retrieve and shelves books, journals, A/V materials, and microforms;
  • Straighten, shift, and read shelves;
  • Assist library users with library research and the application of technology;
  • Assist library users with equipment such as computers, microform readers, and printers/copiers;
  • Process Interlibrary Loan requests;
  • Scan and deliver digital copies of library materials;
  • Retrieve, process, and package incoming and outgoing mail through Mail Services;
  • Create/edit documents, spreadsheets, graphs, and files;
  • Attend and actively participate in scheduled training sessions and staff meetings;
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Knowledge of Library of Congress call number sequences;
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Google Workspace applications;
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform detailed work;
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods, move book carts, and lift to 20 pounds;
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and reach Aptitude for learning new technologies;
  • Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment.
