About This Role

We are seeking an experienced individual to join our team as an Assistant Director. As the Assistant Director, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our children’s program, supporting the Children’s Pastor and Co-Assistant Director in overseeing daily activities, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a nurturing environment for children, families, and staff.


What You'll Do

Leadership and Management:

  • Collaborate with the Children’s Pastor and Assistant Director to develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs that promote the overall well-being and development of children.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of childcare staff, ensuring adherence to standards of excellence in care and education.
  • Provide mentorship, support, and constructive feedback to staff members to facilitate their professional growth and development.

Operational Oversight:

  • Manage daily operations, including scheduling, enrollment, and facility maintenance, to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with licensing regulations, health and safety standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of programs, curriculum, and staff performance to identify areas for improvement and ensure high-quality care and education.

Curriculum Development and Implementation:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of age-appropriate curriculum and educational activities that support children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, curiosity, and lifelong learning by promoting innovative teaching strategies, incorporating diverse perspectives, and adapting to the evolving needs of children and families.

Requirements
  • Must be able to work within the hours of 6:30a-6:00p
  • Have a passion for children, their development, and well-being.
  • Must have the ability to manage in all duties as required by the Children's Pastor in the event of the Children’s Pastor's absence.
  • Must be an excellent communicator, having the ability to discuss issues and topics confidently and professionally with parents while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Must have understanding of child development, classroom management, and teaching responsibilities.
  • Must have strong crisis management abilities, being able to remain cool and composed in the event of an issue.
  • Must remain up to date on federal and state laws and requirements for code compliance.
  • Employment is contingent upon completion of fingerprinting and clearance in accordance with state regulation prior to onboarding
  • A 90-day probationary period will be in place from the date of hire. Continued employment status will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of an initial criminal background investigation and every four (4) years thereafter

Nice To Haves
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a comparable setting.
  • Knowledge of child development principles, early learning standards, and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with state licensing regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement initiatives in early childhood education.
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and a genuine passion for working with children and families.

We are a ministry of Centerville Baptist Church and have been one of the longest running programs in the Chesapeake area; 66 years and counting! It is our mission for all children enrolled in the program to know they are loved by God exactly as they are. We lovingly accept children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Centerville Baptist Children's Program offers preschool, kindergarten, and childcare for these ages. Every child is special, loved, and cared for by our dedicated and experienced staff.
