Position Summary
Assist with operation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom using a constructivist curriculum and environment with quality interactions and programing based on licensing regulations and accreditation standards.
Primary Duties Performed
  • Assist with operation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom using a constructivist curriculum and environment with quality interactions and programing based on licensing regulations and accreditation standards.
  • In the absence of the Teacher, coordinate students, work study students, childcare attendants, therapists, and observers in the classroom.
  • Welcome and invite college students to be a part of the CDLC community.
  • Model developmentally appropriate practice in the classroom.
  • Coach and provide feedback to students during practicum time.
  • Observe and record development for individual children; may work with the Childcare Teacher to create individual goals for the children.
  • Use the children's goals to support the Childcare Teacher in creating the constructivist curriculum and environment within the classroom.
  • Maintain paperwork for children's records and classroom curriculum. Coordinates resources for children with special needs and works with the manager and Childcare Teachers to ensure children's needs are met.
  • Develop and maintain rapport and trust with families; may attend developmental, transition, and exit conferences, or additional conferences.
  • Participate in educational parent meetings; support the Childcare Teacher with daily communication and bimonthly newsletters.
  • Participates in CDLC Parent Advisory Council, STLCC, campus, and community events.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience
  • High School Diploma and one (1) or more years of experience with early childhood development or similar environment.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential OR associate degree in Early Childhood Development or similar degree is preferred.

Working Conditions
  • Early childhood development classroom, outdoor recreation areas, and office environment
  • Employees in the CDLC must clear Family Care Safety Registry and finger printing through licensing, Hepatitis A Immunization series, and Physical and TB Risk Assessment forms. Additional vaccination Requirements: may be added.
  • Employees must complete annual approved training hours each year (currently 12 for licensing and 18 for accreditation) and must complete any web-based training for childcare as assigned by the states of IL and/or MO.
  • Employees must maintain current CPR, pediatric first aid, and medication administration training.
  • Employees must open and maintain a Toolbox Registry Account.
  • Shifts may be assigned between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move quickly up and down off the floor.
  • Ability to lift items overhead, bend, and stoop.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
