Job description

Chief Operating Officer, New York, NYAbout the Company

Our client is a boutique real estate brokerage with a strong reputation in the New York City market, particularly in representing landlords and developers on rental portfolios and new development projects across both rentals and sales. With a beautiful office in NoMad and a growing portfolio of clients, the firm has built a competitive advantage through deep market knowledge, strong landlord relationships, and a hands-on approach to leasing and development advisory.

As the company continues to evolve, ownership is seeking a senior operational leader to help guide the business through its next phase of growth while strengthening internal operations and financial discipline.

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to serve as the senior operational leader of the firm. This individual will work closely with the founders to oversee the day-to-day management of the business, implement operational and financial discipline, and ensure the organization runs efficiently and profitably.

This role will allow ownership to focus more on strategic relationships and business development with landlords and developers, while the COO ensures the company operates at a high level internally.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned NYC real estate professional with strong operational and financial acumen, capable of managing both the strategic and day-to-day aspects of a brokerage business.

Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Operations
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the brokerage including leasing, agent support, marketing coordination, and internal processes

  • Implement operational systems, reporting structures, and workflows to improve efficiency and scalability

  • Manage internal teams and department heads, ensuring accountability and performance across the organization

  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement solutions to streamline the business

Financial Oversight
  • Oversee company financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and expense management

  • Work with ownership to establish financial discipline and cost controls across the business

  • Analyze revenue streams and profitability across leasing portfolios, development projects, and agent performance

  • Partner with accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate reporting and financial transparency

Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as a strategic partner to ownership in setting company direction and long-term growth initiatives

  • Help identify new opportunities with landlords, developers, and institutional clients

  • Provide executive-level decision-making on business initiatives, staffing, and operational priorities

Team Leadership
  • Manage and mentor staff across brokerage operations

  • Build a culture of professionalism, accountability, and collaboration

  • Support agent productivity through improved systems, resources, and operational support

Organizational Management
  • Oversee office operations and internal infrastructure

  • Ensure smooth coordination between leasing teams, marketing, administration, and leadership

  • Manage internal communication and alignment across the company

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 5–15 years of experience in NYC real estate, preferably within brokerage, development, or property operations

  • Proven executive leadership experience managing teams and business operations

  • Strong financial and operational background, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost management

  • Deep understanding of the New York City residential rental and new development market

  • Highly organized operator who can manage both strategic initiatives and daily execution

  • Strong communicator capable of working closely with founders, agents, and staff

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate within a growing boutique firm

Why This Role Is Unique

This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within a respected NYC brokerage, working directly with ownership to shape the future of the firm. The COO will have significant influence over how the company operates, grows, and positions itself within the competitive New York real estate landscape.
