Position Summary
The
Deputy Chief of Police Event Operation and Medical Campus is a command level position, primarily responsible for the coordination of police and security services for designated special events and at the University at Buffalo Medical Campus.
This position is responsible for:
- Directing University Police operations for all campuses and special events, maintaining a professional and highly disciplined law enforcement agency to promote public safety, operational excellence, and organizational accountability.
- Establishing and maintaining effective public safety practices through the application of community policing strategies, and by facilitating the cooperative efforts of students, faculty, staff, and external Medical Campus partners.
- Oversees and is responsible for the fair and impartial enforcement of federal, state, and local laws, University rules and regulations.
- Oversees services provided by outside security contractors to ensure University service expectations are being met.
- Coordinates with Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC) partners to maintain positive and effective working relationships and to develop opportunities for shared services where mutually beneficial.
This position often requires working various shifts to provide active shift supervision of patrol personnel and event operations as needed. The Deputy Chief of Event Operations & Medical Campus reports directly to the Chief of Police, and may assume the responsibilities of the Chief in their absence when designated.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- NYS Police Supervision Course or equivalent.
- Certified NYS Police Officer.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Master of Science Degree.
- Advanced law enforcement supervisory training i.e., FBI LEEDA, FBI NA.
- Prior supervisory experience in a university police department.
Experience:
- Minimum of ten years law enforcement experience; including a minimum of three years supervisory and administration experience.
- Minimum of three years law enforcement experience in a university setting.
Specialized Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership and human relation skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, analytical team building and organizational skills necessary.
- An understanding of the special nature of a university and the role of University Police in such an environment is required.
