Skills for Chicago

Is a Chicago-based nonprofit that removes barriers to employment by eliminating biases that disqualify candidates unnecessarily. Working with local and global companies, Skills brings opportunities to neighborhoods and municipalities throughout the Chicagoland area. To be eligible for Skills for Chicago services, candidates must reside in Illinois or Indiana, be authorized to work in the United States, and be either unemployed or underemployed.


Southside Blooms

Southside Blooms proudly operates as a project under the Chicago Eco House, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to using sustainability as a tool to alleviate inner-city poverty. Founded on compassion and a deep commitment to community well-being, Southside Blooms transforms vacant lots in underserved neighborhoods into vibrant flower farms. By doing so, the organization not only beautifies local spaces but also creates meaningful employment opportunities for inner-city youth.


Job Highlights
  • Assist with daily flower preparation - trimming, arranging, and maintaining freshness
  • Support in creating bouquets and floral products following design guidelines
  • Help maintain a clean and organized workspace, including flower coolers and supplies
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service to shop visitors and event clients
  • Participate in community and farm-based floral projects as needed
  • Learn and apply basic principles of sustainable flower farming and eco-friendly design

Candidate Profile
  • Must be 18-25 years old and live in one of the following ZIP codes: 60608, 60612, 60623, or 60624
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
  • Reliable and punctual with strong teamwork skills
  • Creative mindset and appreciation for plants, flowers, or sustainability
  • Basic communication and organization skills
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods

Additional Information
  • Shift: Monday - Thursday 10am to 3pm. Schedules are production based so will vary based on workload
