Job description

Title: Aquatic Ambassador (S)

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:  Under the immediate supervision of the Monthly Natatorium Instructor, ensures the safety and supervision of patrons at Park District beaches and aquatic facilities. Performs related duties as required. Focus on improving patron's experience on the beach.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Enforces beach rules and regulations regarding all activities occurring on land.
  • Performs maintenance duties to keep area clean, safe and attractive. 
  • Assists in responding to emergency situations on the beach in accordance with established methods and procedures. 
  • Administers first aid, CPR as necessary.

DESIRABLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:  Completion of a least two years of High School is recommended. 

Certification Requirements (Must have all prior to first day of work):  American Red Cross First Aid or equivalent, American Red Cross AED or equivalent, American Red Cross Oxygen Administration or equivalent, and American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Training or equivalent 
Classes will be offered to meet the requirements and applications must pass.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Ability to meet and deal with the public. Ability to administer first aid and CPR to patrons needing such attention. Not a requirement to have any knowledge of lifeguarding methods or techniques.

BENEFITS: As a seasonal Chicago Park District employee in a position covered by the District's Agreement with SEIU Local 73, eligible employees receive the following benefits: 

  • After three seasons in three consecutive years, 1 day of personal leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis. 
  • After three seasons in three consecutive years, 2 days of sick leave at the commencement of each quarter, accrued on a pro rata basis. 
  • Free Admission to most Chicago Museums.
