Chevron is accepting online applications for the position IT Architect, SAP - Hydro Carbon Value Chainthrough 8/14/2026 at 11:59 p.m.

Chevron is one of the world's leading energy companies, with approximately 48,000 employees working in countries around the world. We explore, produce and transport crude oil and natural gas; refine, market and distribute fuels and other energy products; manufacture and sell petrochemical products; generate power; and develop future energy resources.

The architect role is part of the ERP Logistics Team of Chevron. SAP architect bridges the gap between business strategy and technical execution. Primary responsibility is to design, build and govern end-to-end SAP landscapes (like SAP S/4HANA or ECC) and translate complex business requirements into scalable technical specifications, oversee system integration, and ensure optimal performance and security. The role of an SAP architect typically involves these core areas:

  • Solution Design: Translating business goals into technical architecture by determining the appropriate SAP modules (SD, MM, PP, TSW, TD, IS Oil) and cloud solutions.

  • System Integration: Architecting the flow of data between SAP environments and third-party or legacy systems using APIs, middleware, and event-driven

  • Best Practice Governance: Enforcing "Clean Core" principles, ensuring upgrades and extensions (such as side-by-side extensions on the SAP Business Technology Platform) adhere to standard best practices.

  • Performance & Security: Designing secure, scalable, and compliant system architectures. They oversee system sizing, batch job processing, and identity and access management (IAM).

  • Stakeholder Alignment: Communicating technical limitations, costs, and project roadmaps to executive leadership and project managers.

SAP Architect requires a hybrid mix of deep technical acumen, broad cross-functional SAP module knowledge, and strong executive communication skills. Following are required skill set and qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or Business Administration.

  • Years of Experience: 6 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in SAP product consulting, systems integration, and functional consulting before stepping into an architecture role.

  • Lifecycle Delivery: A proven track record of acting as a lead on at least 3 to 4 full end-to-end lifecycle SAP implementations or cloud migrations.

  • Modern Certifications:

    • SAP Certified Professional - Solution Architect - SAP BTP: Demonstrates expertise using BTP for enterprise cloud infrastructure.

    • SAP Certified Professional - Enterprise Architect: Verifies systemic alignment of IT strategy to business value using the SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework.

    • Industry Standards: A TOGAF certification is widely preferred by large consulting firms.

Preferred Qualifications

Must understand how to construct a fast, secure, and modern digital core.

  • S/4HANA & Cloud Architecture: Deep familiarity with SAP S/4HANA (both Public and Private cloud deployment models), infrastructure sizing, and migration paths.

  • SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP): Mastery of SAP BTP services for application development, data orchestration, and custom extensions. [1, 9, 10]

  • Integration Frameworks: Competency in SAP Integration Suite (formerly CPI), RESTful APIs, IDocs, and event-driven patterns to link SAP with legacy non-SAP systems.

  • "Clean Core" Strategy: Knowledge of keeping the core ERP standard by building modern, side-by-side extensions rather than heavy custom legacy code.

  • Security & IAM: Structuring Identity and Access Management (IAM), Single Sign-On (SSO), and role-based authorizations.

Functional & Business Processes

  • Cross-Module Flow: In-depth knowledge of how primary functional modules connect (e.g., MM, SD, PP, IS Oil, Smart GEP).

  • Enterprise Architecture Frameworks: Working knowledge of structural frameworks like TOGAF to properly map corporate landscapes.

  • Process Modeling: Familiarity with modern business transformation tools such as SAP Signavio and LeanIX.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Stakeholder Influence: The ability to explain complex trade-offs (e.g., cost vs. project speed vs. long-term maintenance risks) to non-technical executives.

  • Technical Team Governance: Leading, mentoring, and reviewing the detailed technical designs generated by developers and functional consultants.

  • Problem Solving: Providing rapid technical direction and analytical root-cause analysis (RCA) during system outages.
