We are looking for a Chemical Process Engineer for our Mattoon, IL facility.

Summary: The Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for supporting chemical related functions in the production of insulated metal panels. The Chemical Process Engineer is also involved in process improvements along with managing the laboratory functions. This position also requires managing projects on an independent basis and provide assistance on the KNA division when required by his/her manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The role includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

• Responsible for chemical processing, equipment, day to day production, quality issues, and process optimization. Ensures quality assurance testing is performed on incoming raw materials and finished products.

• Maintains organized detailed records of material testing results for auditing purposes, for both internal and external bodies.

• Maintains strict chemical stock control, including writing and enforcing stocking policies that are in line with company requirements, which also includes FIFO on material usage and forecasting models.

• Training and management of the pant chemical team and assistance in training lab techs and graduates across KNA.

• Implements, maintains, reviews and administers standard operating procedures for chemical areas including generating new procedures for the laboratory and laydown production areas.

• Implements, maintains and reviews laboratory and operator training while maintaining a detailed training matrix including records of the training along with signoffs. Ensures follow up and refresher training takes place as required.

• Ensures chemical areas are in compliance with chemical safety and environmental responsibilities, along with relevant risk assessments.

• Conducts audits of laboratory and laydown areas to drive housekeeping, record keeping and continual process improvements. Periodic auditing and checking of the factory and laboratory to ensure that; the correct machine settings are in use, all equipment is calibrated, all required testing is carried out, all relevant meetings are being attended. In addition to safety related audits.

• Maintains a calibration program for tank farms, labs, and laydown equipment.

• Assists in new product development efforts and product/material testing.

• Provides support to manufacturing and operations with process/product improvement projects. R&D projects as requested.

• Attends regular meetings within the department.

• Provides day-to-day troubleshooting and technical assistance to the local operations team.

• Develops, monitors, and effectively uses control charts and operational indicators, such as SPC, set up sheets and check sheets.

• Provide technical support for the commercial team and support customer visits.

• Responsible for the protection of all Chemical IP and know-how.

• Prepares oral and written technical and progress reports regarding KPIs.

• Submits all required/requested reports to Divisional Chemical Engineering Manager in a timely manner.

• Reports to the Product Development Manager on the analysis of process parameters, process capability and tests relating to the manufacture of a quality product.

• Participate in formulating quality/performance standards or product/processes.

• Facilitate 3rd party auditing and witnessing in support of our existing and future Certification including addressing audits and non-conformances in a timely fashion along with overseeing lab characteristic DoP values.

• Ensures site wide compliance with all cities, state and federal permits regulations regarding chemicals.

• Promote and support a culture of Product Performance Compliance within the chemical team and across the Company and assist with ISO37301 where necessary.

• Manage Lab Technician to ensure all duties and responsibilities are followed according to established procedures.

• Follow the Group Code of Conduct and Group Compliance.

• Follow Compliance requirements per “KNA-SOP-1705 Compliance Roles and Responsibilities.”

• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field is required.

• Requires 1+ years’ experience in manufacturing or chemical processing environments. 2+ years is preferred.

• Requires 1+ years of product testing lab management experience.

Computer Skills:

• Must be highly proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.

Other Skills and Requirements:

• Must be flexible to adjust to the daily demands of this fast-paced position.

• High level of interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands:

Visual Requirements: Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for technical drawings, documentation, and field inspections.

Environmental Exposure: May involve limited fieldwork, exposure to varied temperatures, noise, dust, or outdoor conditions, depending on project needs.

Cognitive & Communication Demands: Requires sustained mental focus, problem-solving, and analytical skills, along with effective verbal and written communication when collaborating with teams or presenting findings.
