Process Engineering Team Lead

Huntsman is seeking a Process Engineering Team Lead supporting the Advanced Materials (ADMAT) Division located at the McIntosh Site, Alabama. This position will report to the Operations Manager.

Job Scope

The Process Engineering Team Lead is responsible for leading process engineering initiatives that support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. This role combines hands-on process engineering responsibilities with leadership of a small team of Process/Production Engineers. The incumbent will drive continuous improvement efforts, optimize production processes, support new product introductions, enhance operational reliability, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and corporate standards. The position plays a critical role in promoting a culture of operational excellence, process safety, and customer focus while supporting the site's strategic and production goals.

In Summary, as the Process Engineering Team Lead, you will:
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve process reliability, efficiency, safety, and product quality.
  • Provide technical process engineering support for production units and site utilities.
  • Track Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and lead root cause analyses (RCA) to eliminate downtime, scrap, and recurring operational issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions based on data-driven analysis.
  • Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing by coordinating MOCs, PHAs, PSSRs, SOP development, operator training, and startup activities.
  • Identify, develop, and implement projects that optimize manufacturing processes while improving safety and operational performance.
  • Serve as the technical owner for key site utilities, including thermal oxidizer and refrigeration systems.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Operations, Maintenance, Project Engineering, and external vendors to improve process performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Support automation initiatives including SIS, alarm management, and batch control systems.
  • Participate in engineering studies, incident investigations, regulatory reporting activities, and process hazard analyses.
  • Develop capital project justifications and ROI analyses for process improvements and site investments.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Process Engineers through performance objectives, coaching, and developmental opportunities.
  • Promote a strong Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) culture and ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate requirements.
  • Communicate technical findings, project updates, recommendations, and presentations to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Influence site priorities and operational improvements through strong technical leadership and collaboration.

  • Lean Manufacturing certification and/or Six Sigma training or certification.
  • Experience with SAP, LIMS, PI Systems, and industrial process control systems.
  • Experience supporting automation initiatives such as SIS, alarm management, and batch systems.
  • Experience leading Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Management of Change (MOC), and PSSR activities.
  • Experience with capital project execution and ROI development.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Experience working with thermal oxidizers, refrigeration systems, or similar industrial utilities.
Working Environment
  • Manufacturing and chemical production facility environment.
  • Frequent interaction with production, maintenance, quality, engineering, and management teams.
  • Regular presence in operating units and process areas.
  • Requires compliance with all site safety standards and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasional support during plant startups, troubleshooting activities, and operational events outside normal business hours.
  • Position may involve activities related to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulated materials and associated compliance requirements following appropriate training.
