JOB INFORMATION Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon, seeks energetic and teaching-focused candidates for one full-time, 172-day Art Instructor in ceramics. Chemeketa serves a large, diverse three county area through its central campus in Salem, a network of satellite campuses and centers, and by being a statewide leader in online education. This teaching assignment may include art courses outside of ceramics such as design classes and/or Understanding Art that use non-traditional delivery methodologies such as: remote, hybrid, and/or online.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Program Responsibilities: Participates in curriculum development; recommends course outline revisions Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment; recommends library and reference materials Contributes suggestions for annual department budget Keeps up to date on technological changes and developments in subject area Attends staff meetings and participates in designated committee work; represents the department at pertinent meetings as required Promotes positive image of college and college programs Develops and maintains contacts with community and professional organizations Functions as a life-long learner Manages ceramic materials inventory, including safe handling of hazardous materials, while mindful of sustainability Serves as Gallery Coordinator or Program Chair as needed Instruction: Instructs Art classes utilizing knowledge of the discipline and teaching practice that facilitates student learning Meets all scheduled and special classes-day, possible evening and weekends Teaches classes as assigned, following approved course outlines Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes Posts and maintains office hours Provides students with course syllabi Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required Maintains college facilities and equipment Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online Teaching and Learning Values: Creates a learning climate of mutual respect and fairness Encourages creative and critical thinking Engages participants in an active learning process Facilitates learning that applies to and enriches lives Encourages student responsibility for learning Promotes learning as a lifelong process Other Functions: Performs all other job-related duties as assigned Institutional Expectations: Embraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff and the public from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds Participates in recruitment and retention of students at an individual and institutional level in promotion of student success Embraces, understands and uses appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions Provides high quality, effective service to internal and external customers through continuous improvement and adoption of lean office practices CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS Your application will be scored based on the minimum qualifications, core competencies, and preferred qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from an accredited institution -AND- Two years of teaching experience in higher education Core Competencies Demonstrable experience providing culturally responsive instruction Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others Preferred Qualifications Experience or demonstrated interest in working with adult, non-traditional and underrepresented learners Experience integrating emerging technology into teaching and learning Demonstrated leadership skills in administrative capacities such as oversight of a ceramics studio Experience with curation and preparation of exhibitions Demonstrated successful collaboration in professional settings Bilingual and bicultural ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT This is a 100%, 10-month faculty assignment of the F9 band and grade All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations If requested, you must supply official transcripts within 30-days of hire Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment. PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
