Job description

PriceSmart Foods is your one stop grocery market offering an abundant selection of authentic Asian and national brand groceries at an exceptional value. We are hiring for a Chef at our Station Square PriceSmart Foods location in Burnaby, BC.

The successful candidate must have open availability and be available for 40 hours per week.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing, implementing, executing and maintaining new and existing menu items.

  • Preparing, cooking, and executing menu items and specials.

  • Planning and directing food preparation and cooking activities within the department.

  • Training, educating and supervising team member on menu items and procedures.

  • Inventory control with a focus on quality.

  • Managing inventory to minimize food waste and spoilage. Control shrinks by utilizing par levels,writing proper orders or portion control.

  • Ordering and effectively controlling all kitchen related costs (such as food, labour, shrinks, margin and packaging) to achieve targeted KPIs.

  • Ensuring accurate stocktaking in the department.

You have:

  • Experience making a variety of Asian hot foods and cold foods including sushi, dim sum, BBQ and stir fry.

  • Good working knowledge of W.H.I.M.I.S. and Food Safe Certificate.

  • A passion for great food and providing outstanding customer service.

  • A strong work ethic and "let's get it done" attitude.

  • Integrity, enthusiasm, and willingness to Go the Extra Mile.

  • Retail customer service experience (considered an asset).

  • Fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese (considered an asset).
