Job description

Sous Chef – Umami

Umami is a brand-new Asian fusion restaurant looking for a skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join our opening leadership team. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Head Chef to help lead kitchen operations, maintain food quality standards, and support a positive and efficient kitchen environment. This is for a full time position of about 35hrs weekly.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations
  • Prepare and oversee high-quality food preparation and presentation
  • Help manage kitchen staff and support team development
  • Ensure consistency, cleanliness, and food safety standards are maintained
  • Assist with inventory, prep lists, ordering, and kitchen organization
  • Support scheduling, opening, and closing procedures
  • Maintain a calm and professional attitude during busy service periods
  • Step into leadership responsibilities in the Head Chef’s absence

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong line cook leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety standards
