Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Checker Loader on 2nd shift [typically 1pm to 9pm] at our Elkhart, Indiana foam manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for operating all equipment in the carpet cushion department and loading finished products while meeting production and quality standards for the department. The pay rate for this position is $23.93 to $24.85. There is also an additional $2.00 per hour shift premium for working 2nd shift.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate both verbally and written with the department and supervisor. This position will require the safe operation of a forklift along with computer use.

Additional responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Manually load and drive a squeeze forklift
  • Will lift and maneuver Carpet Cushion Rolls and packages of foam weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Watch for defects in the material
  • Plan work flow with lead person or supervisor to ensure all required trailer are loaded
  • Perform quality checks.
  • Ability to read and interpret a tape measure
  • Load product into trailers
  • Check product loaded in correct trailer per customer specifications
  • Must be able to check multiple trailers at the same time
  • Scan(with a hand scanner) products to load into the computer shipping system
  • Will print labels, run manifest and bills of lading from computer
  • Work Safely in a fast-paced environment
  • Will read and understand Carpenter Co Truck Sheets

Skills/ Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree Required.
  • Basic Computer experience required and SAP preferred.
  • Forklift Experience required
  • Must be able to train on 1st shift with normal hours of 5am to 1pm for at least 30 days
