Job Summary

VIZ Media, the world leader in English-language versions of manga and anime (Japanese comics and animation), is looking for a temporary Publishing Production Assistant to join the Publishing Production team. The Publishing Production Assistant is responsible for supporting VIZ Media's Publishing Production team with coordinating the day-to-day operations for print publishing production, including manga, illustrated books, art books, and novels.

What You'll Do:

  • Receive, ship, and log print production materials from/to printers and vendors
  • Sort proofs/print samples/advance copies from printers and deliver them to internal staff
  • Update production status on production/reprint trackers and other related tracking sheets
  • Review print samples and check printing quality
  • Assist with data entry, copying, packing/shipping, and other administrative duties

The Ideal Candidate has: 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, InDesign, etc.) a plus
  • Knowledge of/interest in book publishing, comics, and/or manga preferred
  • Ability to pay strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines

Work Environment & Schedule

Location: The Publishing Production Assistant must be local to the San Francisco Bay Area and able to commute to our San Francisco office (94103). 

Schedule: This temporary position will run for approximately 3 months, from August through October, with the possibility of extension. The Publishing Production Assistant must be available to work at least 4 days (Mon-Thu) per week between 9:30am and 4:00pm, for a maximum of 24 hours/week. 

Compensation: This position will be compensated at a rate of $20-$25 an hour, depending on experience.
