Department Overview:
Nurses in the Telehealth Nursing department demonstrate strong competency in using various telecommunication technologies to provide direct virtual nursing care. Telehealth Nursing RNs triage, prioritize patient needs, collaborate with patients to develop care plans, direct them to the appropriate level of care, and provide referrals to Emory services and other resources to ensure a comprehensive care experience. Telehealth Nursing LPNs assist patients with prescription management across specialties.

Job Summary: The LPN Ambulatory Virtual/Telehealth Nurse will provide patient care using virtual platforms, demonstrating proficiency in telehealth technologies and clinical protocols. They will assess and manage patient needs, collaborate with providers, manage prescriptions, and complete prior authorizations. Strong time management, attention to detail, and cultural sensitivity are crucial in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Management: 1. Provide virtual nursing care using telecommunication technologies (telephone, video, chat, etc.). 2. Assess patient needs using clinical protocols, guidelines, and Synergy model for Care. 3. Assist with medication management and scheduling appointments. 4. Route medication renewal orders to providers for review per protocol. 5. Collaborate with patients regarding prescription management, including protocol orders. 6. Identify and report patient safety and quality issues. 7. Act as an advocate for the patient, supporting optimal health outcomes. 8. Educate patients on the provider's plan of care. 9. Resolve pharmacy/medication issues in collaboration with providers.
Operational Support: 1. Document, update, and maintain patient medical records. 2. Support clinical and administrative operations of telehealth. 3. Participate in staff meetings, huddles, and organizational meetings. 4. Train, orient, and educate new team members and students. 5. Maintain confidentiality in all interactions and follow telehealth policies.
Communication & Collaboration: 1. Serve as a liaison between patients and providers. 2. Demonstrate effective listening skills and conflict resolution abilities. 3. De-escalate calls and manage difficult situations. 4. Collaborate actively with the team and other health system partners.
Compliance & Professional Development: 1. Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. 2. Maintain competencies for telehealth nursing. 3. Participate in professional development activities. 4. Meet minimum quality, safety, and productivity metrics consistently.
Technology: 1. Use Emory-approved telehealth platforms and technology in patient care delivery. 2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and eMR. 3. Utilize TEAMS, email, and other communication platforms to stay informed.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education: 1. High School Diploma or GED required. 2. Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
Experience: Previous nursing experience preferred, not required
License: 1. Valid, active, unencumbered License of Practical Nursing approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing 2. An active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire.
Certification: BLS
Skills: 1. Critical thinking and data synthesis. 2. Strong telephone communication skills and computer skills. 3. Effective communication skills over various mediums. 4. Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. 5. Strong interpersonal skills encompassing cultural, ethical, economic, and access to healthcare resource understanding when interacting with patients. 6. Knowledge of electronic medical records and e-prescribing. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS, Outlook and eMR and other electronic platforms
WFH: If work from home is assigned must sign and follow the Emory work from home agreement (WFH). 1. Access to high-speed broadband and reliable internet in your home. 2. Private and confidential workspace in your home. 3. Computer proficiency in multiple systems, including intermediate knowledge of Windows-based applications (Microsoft Office suite, etc).
Additional Requirements: 1. Must complete and maintain nursing competencies for all components of virtual/telehealth nursing 2. Must meet minimum quality, safety and productivity metrics consistently. 3. When scheduled to work must be actively working and following the virtual work policies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Light 1-10 lbs): 0-33% of the work day (occasionally), negligible 34-66% of the workday (frequently), negligible 67-100% of the workday (constantly). Lifting 10 lbs max, carrying of small articles such as dockets, ledgers, files, small tools, occasional standing & walking, frequent sitting, close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste. chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock , floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required, use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
