What is a channel manager?

Channel Managers are professionals responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with partners, distributors, or resellers that sell a company's products or services. They create strategies to expand the company's reach and maximize revenue through indirect sales channels. Their duties often include onboarding new partners, providing training, setting sales targets, and ensuring that partners align with the company's goals and standards.

What does a channel manager do?

A channel manager works with sales or marketing within a specific channel. In this career, your duties may involve overseeing sales operations and being the moderator for supplier and customer relationships in a particular territory. Your responsibilities could range from fostering relationships with potential or existing channel partners and clients, creating and implementing sales growth strategies designed to increase profitability for your channel, closing difficult sales, and working on the recruitment of new sales and marketing partners. You may also meet with partners in your sales channel and moderate discussions between your marketing team and your channel partners.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a channel manager?

To thrive as a Channel Manager, you need expertise in sales strategy, partner relationship management, and a solid understanding of channel sales models, typically supported by a degree in business or marketing. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, partner portals, and sales analytics tools is often required. Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills set exceptional Channel Managers apart. These capabilities are vital for building effective partner networks, driving revenue growth, and ensuring seamless collaboration between an organization and its channel partners.

How does a channel manager typically collaborate with sales and marketing teams to drive partner performance?

A Channel Manager works closely with both sales and marketing teams to align strategies, develop joint campaigns, and provide partners with the resources they need to succeed. This collaboration often involves regular meetings to discuss partner feedback, analyze sales data, and coordinate promotional activities. By fostering open communication and sharing insights between internal teams and external partners, Channel Managers help ensure that all parties are working toward mutual goals and maximizing revenue opportunities.

Job description

Equinox Engineering Ltd. is a leading Calgary-based EPCM firm known for delivering innovative facility design and engineering solutions across natural gas, heavy oil, carbon capture, and emerging energy sectors. Over the past 30 years, Equinox has developed and refined Axiom5, a purpose-built Project Management Information System (PMIS) designed to support project-driven organizations through significant workforce, revenue, and operational growth.

Equinox is seeking an Axiom Sales Representative who brings strong business development skills, curiosity, and a passion for helping organizations improve project execution and operational performance.

In this role, you will help introduce Axiom5 to the marketplace, build qualified sales opportunities, and support the growth of a software business built on decades of real-world operational success. You will work closely with prospective clients, channel partners, implementation consultants, and internal stakeholders to expand market awareness and generate recurring software revenue.

Why Join Equinox?
  • Opportunity to help commercialize a platform built from more than 30 years of operational experience.
  • Be part of a respected engineering organization with a strong reputation for innovation and execution excellence.
  • Work at the intersection of technology, project delivery, and business transformation.
  • Collaborate with clients, industry partners, and project professionals across North America.
  • Join a people-focused culture that values initiative, collaboration, continuous improvement, and long-term career growth.
As an Axiom Sales Representative, you will play a key role in building pipeline, qualifying opportunities, and helping establish Axiom5's position within the professional services and capital project markets.

Your focus will be on:
  • Building qualified sales opportunities through targeted prospect engagement.
  • Supporting channel partners and implementation consultants in developing opportunities.
  • Identifying organizations that can benefit from modernizing their project management and operational systems.
  • Providing market intelligence and customer insights that support business growth.
Business Development
  • Identify and engage target organizations within engineering, environmental consulting, project management, construction, and capital project sectors.
  • Execute outbound prospecting campaigns through phone, email, LinkedIn, and other business development channels.
  • Follow up on leads generated through industry events, marketing initiatives, webinars, referrals, and partner introductions.
  • Build relationships with operations leaders, project managers, financial decision-makers, and technology stakeholders.
Channel Partner Collaboration
  • Coordinate with implementation consultants, channel partners, and resellers to support co-selling activities and shared pipeline development.
  • Assist partners with lead qualification, opportunity development, and customer engagement.
  • Maintain strong working relationships through responsive communication and effective follow-through.
Opportunity Qualification & CRM Management
  • Assess opportunities against Axiom5's ideal customer profile, including company size, project complexity, existing systems, and business readiness.
  • Identify software replacement and platform migration opportunities.
  • Recognize disqualifying factors early to maintain focus on high-value opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records within the company's CRM system to support forecasting, visibility, and opportunity management.
Market Intelligence
  • Monitor competitor activity, industry trends, and customer needs within the PMIS and project technology landscape.
  • Capture insights from prospect discussions and share findings with sales, marketing, and product stakeholders.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities, verticals, and partnership channels that support growth objectives.
You are a motivated sales professional who enjoys building relationships, uncovering customer challenges, and creating business opportunities. You are comfortable engaging senior decision-makers and thrive in an environment where initiative and curiosity are valued.

You bring:
  • 5+ years of experience in a B2B SaaS, enterprise software, sales development, or inside sales role.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and build credibility with business decision-makers.
  • Experience or familiarity with project-based industries such as engineering, construction, consulting, professional services, or capital projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to conduct consultative customer conversations.
  • Experience working with CRM platforms such as Salesforce or similar systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A customer-focused and solutions-oriented approach.
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or a related field.
Preferred
  • Experience working with channel partners, resellers, or implementation consultants.
  • Familiarity with PMIS, ERP, project controls, or project management platforms such as Deltek, Unanet, 4castplus, Contruent, Cleopatra Enterprise, Procore, or similar solutions.
  • Understanding of project controls, project accounting, resource management, or capital project delivery workflows.

If you are passionate about business development, enjoy building relationships, and want to help shape the growth of a software platform developed from decades of project delivery experience, we would love to hear from you. Join Equinox and play a key role in expanding Axiom5's presence across the professional services and capital project markets.
