Founded in 1996, CMES, Inc. is a rapidly growing, privately held Georgia-based civil construction company. We are seeking to add a Traffic Control Assistant to our team to support our continued rapid growth within the highway construction industry.
Overview: The Traffic Control Assistant will be responsible for supporting the safe flow of traffic by setting up and maintaining temporary traffic control devices, directing vehicles and pedestrians around construction sites or disruptions, and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, working under the supervision of the Traffic Control Coordinator.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Setting up traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, and other traffic control equipment according to project plans and safety guidelines.
  • Directing traffic by guiding vehicles and pedestrians around construction zones, accidents, or other road disruptions using hand signals and flags.
  • Maintaining traffic control zones by regularly checking control devices for proper placement and functionality, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Responding to emergencies by assisting in managing traffic during unexpected situations like accidents or road closures.
  • Maintaining safety by ensuring all traffic control devices are placed in a safe and visible manner, adhering to relevant safety regulations.
  • Coordinating with construction crews, law enforcement, and other relevant parties to ensure smooth traffic flow.
  • Keeping work areas clean by removing and storing traffic control devices once the work is completed.

Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years proven work experience in a similar role.
  • Traffic Control Installer Certification (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of traffic control regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to set up and maintain traffic control devices.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Ability to follow and adhere to established safety procedures.
  • CDL preferred

Work environments: Construction sites, Road maintenance projects in outside-weather conditions that can include inclement weather, heat, humidity, etc. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites.
Compensation: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
