As an Equine Specialist, you will assist in the facilitation of equine experiential. May assist with challenge course activities. Monitors the safety of patients. Clean horse stalls and complete other stable maintenance needs as required.
Essential Duties Include:
  • Program Services
    • Assist in assessment of patient needs and provide activities for patients that are appropriate to age, development, needs and interest.
    • Instruct patients in grooming and horse handling procedures of and equitation skills.
    • Document activity sessions in the patient record.
    • Act to preserve patient safety during activities.
    • Communicate with clinical, medical and nursing any change in a Patients status, including health or behavior.
  • Equine Care
    • Follow horse training procedures to maintain standard equine performance levels necessary to ensure the safety and suitability of horses used in program.
    • Monitor health and behavior of horses, reporting any concerns regarding health to the Equine Program Director.
    • Cleans stalls and complete other stable maintenance needs as required.
  • Other
    • Ability to converse in English with others to give, take and process information; extensive use of telephone.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, multi-task, coordinate projects and record/transcribe general and specific meeting minutes.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Communicate with other staff to relay concerns and observations involving patient safety.

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required. Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • EAGALA Certification preferred.
  • CPR / First Aide and CPI required.
  • Minimum of three years equestrian experience required.
  • Prefer three years experience facilitating group equine activates in a patient care setting.
  • Three years experience facilitating group recreational activities preferred.
  • Three years experience in facilitating challenge course activities preferred.
