Lead the Future of Behavioral Health Care
Ellis Medicine, a leading community health system serving New York's Capital Region, is seeking an experienced and visionary Chair of Psychiatry to lead and advance our behavioral health services. This senior physician leadership role offers the opportunity to shape clinical excellence, drive strategic growth, and make a meaningful impact on the mental health needs of our community.
As Chair of Psychiatry, you will provide clinical, administrative, and strategic leadership for all inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services while maintaining an active clinical practice. Working closely with hospital leadership, physicians, nursing, and community partners, you will help strengthen and expand a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Department Leadership
  • Provide oversight of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice.
  • Establish and monitor clinical standards, workflows, and quality initiatives.
  • Ensure appropriate physician coverage, including call schedules.
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and patient-centered care.

Physician Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and evaluate psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners.
  • Promote physician engagement, professional development, and teamwork.
  • Support a high-performing and collaborative department culture.

Quality, Compliance & Performance
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, New York State Office of Mental Health, Department of Health, and hospital requirements.
  • Lead peer review, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain adherence to Medical Staff Bylaws and departmental policies.

Strategic & Operational Management
  • Partner with leadership to improve access, care coordination, and service delivery.
  • Participate in budgeting, staffing, and operational planning.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.

Institutional Leadership
  • Represent Psychiatry on medical staff and hospital committees.
  • Serve as a liaison between psychiatric services, hospital leadership, and community behavioral health partners.

Qualifications
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in New York State.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical psychiatric experience.
  • Prior psychiatry leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in team building, physician management, and communication.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and team-based care.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $330,000
  • Quality Incentive: Up to $20,000 annually
  • Relocation Assistance: Up to $25,000
  • CME Allowance: $4,500 annually plus CME time
  • Comprehensive benefits package that starts on day one.
