Job description

We have an exciting new opportunity to become the first Canada-based representative of CFC's London-based Professions team, helping to shape the continued growth of our E&O business across the Canadian market.
Combining technical underwriting expertise with market-facing leadership, you'll act as a trusted referral point for underwriters, strengthen relationships with key brokers and help expand CFC's distribution and retail presence. With a particular focus on middle-market opportunities, you'll have the scope to influence underwriting strategy, support the evolution of our proposition and identify new opportunities for profitable growth.
As Underwriting Manager, you'll underwrite strategically across our Professions portfolio while leading broker engagement and business development activity in Canada. Working closely with the Practice Leader and underwriting teams in London, you'll help ensure a consistent approach to underwriting appetite, authority, broker strategy and profitability. 
  • Underwriting selected new and renewal business, with a focus on developing retail relationships and growing middle-market opportunities.
  • Responding efficiently to broker enquiries, including quote requests, coverage questions and administrative requirements
  • Acting as an onshore referral point and providing guidance on policy wordings, endorsements and product changes.
  • Partnering with practice leadership to support underwriting strategy, appetite development, competitive positioning and product evolution.
  • Building and deepening relationships with key retail and wholesale brokers, target accounts and industry partners across Canada.
  • Expanding CFC's retail presence across the Professions product suite, particularly Architects & Engineers, Contractors Professional and Manufacturers E&O.
  • Representing CFC at broker meetings, industry events and market summits.
  • Providing local market insight to inform product, technology, distribution and broker engagement decisions.
  • Delivering internal and external presentations on CFC products, market trends and emerging exposures
You'll be an experienced professional lines underwriter with strong E&O knowledge, commercial judgement and a successful track record of delivering profitable results. You'll bring established relationships across the Canadian retail and wholesale broker market, together with the confidence and credibility to represent CFC externally and develop new business opportunities.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in a professional lines underwriting or production-focused role.
  • Strong technical knowledge across E&O products.
  • Well-established broker relationships across different regions and brokerage sizes within the Canadian insurance market.
  • Proven business development capability and the motivation to identify and pursue growth opportunities.
  • An articulate and influential communication style, with the ability to present confidently and respond constructively to questions, feedback and challenge.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, take ownership and operate successfully as a self-starter.
