What is a CFA analyst?

CFA Analysts are financial professionals who have earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, a globally recognized certification awarded by the CFA Institute. These analysts specialize in investment analysis, portfolio management, and ethical financial practices. CFA Analysts are skilled in evaluating financial data, conducting research, and making recommendations to help individuals and organizations make informed investment decisions. Their expertise is highly valued in sectors such as asset management, investment banking, and equity research.

How do CFA analysts typically collaborate with portfolio managers and other financial professionals in their daily work?

CFA Analysts frequently work alongside portfolio managers, traders, and research teams to support investment decision-making. They provide in-depth financial analysis, build valuation models, and present insights on market trends and company performance. Regular communication is essential, as analysts often discuss their findings in team meetings and contribute to strategy sessions. This collaborative environment helps ensure that investment recommendations are thoroughly vetted and aligned with overall portfolio objectives.

Job description

Are you a data analyst ready to turn your technical foundation in SQL, Python, Excel, and data visualization into meaningful, hands-on experience? If you enjoy working directly with datasets-cleaning, preparing, validating, and transforming data into trusted insights-this is an opportunity to build your capabilities while contributing to decisions across a global organization.

The Data Analyst supports CFA Institute's Enterprise Data Analytics team by cleaning, preparing, and documenting structured datasets, and by building foundational visualizations, dashboards, and reports. Working under the guidance of the Director, Enterprise Data Analytics, the Data Analyst applies established methods and standard tools, such as Excel, SQL, and Python, to deliver accurate and timely analyses that support business decisions across the organization. The Data Analyst executes predefined data analysis tasks, runs statistical analyses, and conducts quality assurance on reports and data pipelines. The role investigates known data issues using standard troubleshooting steps.

This position is eligible for remote work within select approved U.S. locations. Candidates must reside in one of the locations identified in the job posting.

What You'll Do

  • Clean, prepare, and document structured datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability for downstream analysis

  • Build simple visualizations and dashboards using standard tools such as Excel, SQL, and Python

  • Run basic statistical analyses under close supervision, applying foundational knowledge of statistics and data wrangling

  • Execute predefined analytic tasks and templates, following established methods and processes

  • Conduct quality assurance on reports and data pipelines to identify and correct errors before publication

  • Investigate known data issues and follow standard troubleshooting steps; escalate novel or ambiguous questions to senior team members

  • Contribute to the preparation of recurring data and analytics reports for internal stakeholders

  • Support colleagues' use of data management and reporting systems by answering routine questions and directing them to documentation

  • Develop foundational data analysis skills and business knowledge through ongoing training, coaching, and hands-on project work

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, data science, computer science, economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • Professional experience in data analysis, reporting, or a related analytical role

  • Foundational knowledge of statistics, data wrangling, and visualization using tools such as Excel, SQL, and Python

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in data preparation and reporting

  • Ability to follow established methods and processes, while recognizing when to escalate novel or ambiguous issues

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to internal stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assigned tasks under close supervision

  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

  • Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Co-Pilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor
