Job description

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Information System Manager, the IT Analyst for Laboratory Systems, will work with external vendors, system owners, community partners, contractors and Health Science Campus leadership to design, develop, implement and make operational laboratory information systems. This incumbent will identify and document information technology design specifications based on analysis/assessment of user needs and generate need-gap analyses. This person will use sound knowledge to generate and develop system scope and objective, analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems and devise or modify procedures to solve problems using data processing.

Essential Duties:

  • Analyze application and interface problems and workflow as well as user requirements to independently and collaboratively develop solutions.
  • Demonstrate in- depth understanding of fundamentals of requirement specification, design, and testing of Interfaces/Data Integration technologies.
  • Analyze and help define and document departmental requirements. Analyze a chain of events and applies technical knowledge following established procedures.
  • Participate in design, contributing technical insights and ideas. Help formulate project scope and objectives. Successfully troubleshoots applications problems independently.
  • Typically responsible for completion of a phase or component of a project.
  • Contribute to the development of project plans, identifies key milestones, and raise critical project issues such as resource needs and contingencies.
  • May be responsible to instruct, direct and review the work of staff.
  • Work directly with users in defining new application requirements, and resolving project issues. Respond to user problems; explain new technologies, and present deliverables.
  • Build productive networks with internal and external customers and the vendor community.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for department functions in relationship to implementing and managing responsible systems.
  • Create scripts that perform interface functions.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to communicate and translate technical flow to workflow for multiple levels of the organization.
  • Ability to fulfill On-Call requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor's degree Degree in related field
  • Combined work experience or certifications and education as equivalent
  • Req 1 year Experience in a Clinical Laboratory in a healthcare setting required; blood bank experience a plus.
  • Req Organization/time management skills.
  • Req Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
  • Req Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Req Able to function independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref 3 years 3 or more years of Cerner PathNet GenLab and Blood Bank Millennium experience including system design, documentation, maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting highly preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The hourly rate range for this position is $47.84 - $79.11.
