What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Ceramic Technologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Ceramic Technologist, you need a solid background in materials science, chemistry, and engineering, typically supported by a relevant degree such as ceramics engineering or materials science. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, kiln operation, quality control methods, and industry-specific software like CAD is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help you excel in both research and manufacturing environments. These competencies ensure the development of high-quality ceramic products and innovation while maintaining safety and efficiency in production processes.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in ceramic technology, and how can they overcome them?

Professionals in ceramic technology often encounter challenges such as ensuring the consistency of raw materials, optimizing firing processes, and preventing defects like cracks or warping in finished products. Staying up-to-date with advancements in materials science and production techniques is crucial for overcoming these issues. Collaboration with quality control teams and process engineers helps identify the root causes of defects and implement corrective actions. Continuous learning and participating in industry workshops can also provide valuable solutions to technical challenges in this field.

What is ceramic technology?

Ceramic technology is the study and application of inorganic, non-metallic materials that are formed by the action of heat. It involves the design, development, and manufacturing of ceramic products such as tiles, sanitary ware, refractories, and advanced ceramics used in electronics, aerospace, and medical devices. Professionals in this field focus on optimizing the properties of ceramics, including durability, heat resistance, and electrical insulation, to meet specific industrial needs. This technology plays a crucial role in sectors ranging from construction to high-tech industries.

What is the difference between Ceramic Technology vs Ceramic Engineering?

AspectCeramic TechnologyCeramic Engineering
Required CredentialsAssociate's or Bachelor's in Materials Science, Ceramic Science, or related fieldsBachelor's or Master's in Ceramic Engineering or Materials Science
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, R&D labs, quality controlDesign labs, manufacturing facilities, research institutions
Industry UsageProduct development, quality testing, process optimizationDesigning ceramic materials, developing new ceramics, process engineering

While both roles involve working with ceramics, Ceramic Technology focuses on applying ceramic materials in manufacturing and quality control, whereas Ceramic Engineering emphasizes designing and developing new ceramic materials and processes. Understanding these differences helps professionals choose the right career path or specialization within the ceramics industry.

Job description

Senior Web 3 Developer Advocate New York, NY (Remote) At 3Box Labs we are on a mission to usher in a new era for the web, where data is secure, interactions are trustworthy, and relationships are the basis of connection. We're enabling online experiences that are delightful and integrated while also bolstering privacy and freeing innovation. Our first product, Ceramic, is the building block for composable data on the web and is powering thousands of the world's most ambitious applications.

We're backed by an incredible community and the best investors in the space (USV, Placeholder, Variant, Multicoin) who have deep conviction in our mission. We are a lean, voraciously curious team from across the globe, with 5 years of expert remote work experience and frequent (and awesome) team retreats to spend time together. We have founded tech startups, written books, won product awards, authored patents, created Ethereum standards, and advised F100 CEOs.

Every one of our roles is remote first (retreat often!). We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team because we cannot succeed in our mission without it. People that identify with groups traditionally underrepresented in tech are particularly encouraged to apply.

At Ceramic, we are building infrastructure and open APIs that we believe will empower developers around the world to build better and more scalable applications using composable and interoperable data. As a Developer Advocate, you will be focusing on growing the Ceramic developer community and ensuring that developers have the best experience when using Ceramic tools and APIs. You will focus on educating developers on technical aspects of Ceramic, inspiring them to build better applications by creating demos and projects, understanding their needs, and ensuring that Ceramic truly serves those needs.

This position reports to the Developer Success Lead. Success looks like... You create technical tutorials, educational curriculum, demos and best practice guides that enable developers to understand Ceramic technology, helping us unlock the growth of the Ceramic ecosystem from hundreds of Web3 apps to thousands.

You unlock collaboration with other developer communities and ecosystems by building applications, writing code for integrations between Ceramic and other APIs, and tinkering around to create new technical demos. You ensure that our 100,000 developer community has a smooth development experience when building on Ceramic by providing whiteโ€glove support. You'll take feedback and turn it into proofs of concept, demos and fixes which you will propose to the core Ceramic technology.

You represent Ceramic at key developer conferences and hackathons, accelerating Ceramic's popularity and making it one of the key projects developers want to learn and build on during hackathons. You're likely a good fit if you have... You are comfortable working with JavaScript/TypeScript and React.

You have experience building web3 applications or helping other developers build web3 projects. You have an understanding and an ability to work with various thirdโ€party libraries and APIs. You have experience with technical writing and public speaking and can represent difficult technical concepts to diverse audiences.

You are a strong technical educator and have experience building technical educational programs, curricula or workshops. You take pride in helping others and have a genuine interest in helping people, regardless of background, to understand difficult concepts and build great applications. You have a strong curiosity for technology and strive to learn new things and build new projects; you love tinkering around, building demos and new applications.
