RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ceph Storage Administration Sr. Consultant (Remote)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Ceph Storage Administration Senior Consultant to design, implement, administer, and optimize enterprise-scale Ceph storage environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in software-defined storage, distributed systems, Linux administration, and cloud-native technologies. This role will serve as a trusted technical advisor, supporting critical storage infrastructure initiatives and ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance across complex environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design, deploy, configure, and maintain Ceph storage clusters in enterprise environments.
Monitor and optimize cluster health, performance, capacity planning, and fault tolerance.
Perform upgrades, patching, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery activities.
Administer and support Ceph components including:
RADOS
RBD (RADOS Block Device)
CephFS
Object Gateway (RGW)
MON, OSD, MDS, and Manager services
Analyze storage performance metrics and implement improvements.
Troubleshoot complex storage, network, and Linux operating system issues.
Develop automation scripts and operational procedures to improve efficiency.
Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, DevOps, and application teams to support business requirements.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior administrators and engineers.
Create and maintain architecture diagrams, operational documentation, and knowledge-base articles.
Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation efforts.
Ensure storage environments comply with security and regulatory requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience administering enterprise storage platforms.
3+ years of hands-on experience managing Ceph storage environments.
Strong experience with Linux administration (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar).
Deep understanding of distributed storage architectures and software-defined storage concepts.
Experience troubleshooting storage, networking, and performance-related issues.
Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, DNS, load balancing, and storage networking concepts.
Experience with scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a fully remote consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Red Hat Ceph Storage.
Experience supporting Kubernetes, OpenShift, or containerized workloads.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Experience with virtualization technologies including VMware vSphere, KVM, or OpenStack.
Consulting or professional services experience supporting multiple client environments.
Experience designing highly available and disaster recovery-focused storage solutions.
Relevant certifications in Linux, Red Hat, OpenShift, cloud technologies, or storage administration.
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
