General Purpose
This position is responsible for seasonal landscaping, equipment maintenance, burial assistance, and building and monument repairs for all City Cemeteries.
Union Affiliation: Non-Union
Pay Grade: $19.15 Hourly
Remote Tier 1: Zero (0) days remote/week
Essential Job Functions
  • Mow all lawns for all Cemetery properties.
  • Trim hedges; prune trees and clip and groom shrubs and bushes.
  • Ensure all headstones and burial sites are well groomed and free of overgrowth.
  • Effectively operate all Department landscaping equipment, including but not limited to the backhoe, jackhammer, tractor, ransom mower, jackhammer, mower, etc.
  • Assisting in preparing for set-up and filling in of all burial sites for services by Department policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the seasonal release of all stored caskets.
  • Assist in preparing monument foundations and installing flush markers under the direction of the Cemetery Superintendent.
  • Report to a supervisor or directly interact with individuals engaging in improper actions on Cemetery property by Department policies and procedures.
  • Survey, pick-up, remove and dispose of all trash on all three cemetery sites.
  • Act as "Ambassador" for the City, carrying out work and interacting with co-workers and the public respectfully, professionally.
  • Carry out work in the field and interact with the public courteously and respectfully, presenting self and City positively interacting with the public courteously and respectfully, presenting self and City positively.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements
  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.?
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development. โ€ข Ability to possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.
  • Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid driver's license to Human Resources will not be permitted. A valid driver's license shall be defined as a current state of residence-issued license to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Position also requires the ability to be covered under the City's vehicle insurance policy prior to operation of any City vehicles or non-City vehicles for City business
  • Background in landscaping with horticultural knowledge preferred.
  • Experience driving a truck and landscape trailer preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance while engaging in fieldwork, by refraining from any use of profanity, inappropriate language, or inappropriate behavior required.
  • Must be a flexible team player that takes direction well, is safety conscious, customer-oriented, and willing and able to learn to operate all equipment and perform all tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and follow tasks through to completion required.
  • Ability to handle death-related issues and stress appropriately.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, tractor, plow truck, trailer, trimmers, mowers, and other small equipment as it relates to Cemetery operation.
  • Must be able to work and operate appropriate equipment in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to shovel dirt over the head from five-foot depth.
