Job description

Job Title: Chassis Design Engineer – CATIA V6
Job Description

This role focuses on the design and development of automotive chassis systems with a strong emphasis on hands-on CAD work using CATIA V6 and CATIA V5. You will independently own the design of physical chassis components from concept through release, creating detailed 2D and 3D models and performing basic CAE analysis to support validation. The position suits engineers with 3–6 years of chassis or mechanical design experience who can quickly integrate into ongoing projects and contribute in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automotive chassis components and systems using CATIA V6 and CATIA V5.
  • Create and modify complex 3D solid and surface models for chassis components.
  • Produce and maintain detailed 2D drawings and 3D annotated drawings to support manufacturing and assembly.
  • Perform basic CAE analysis to support design development and validation activities.
  • Own engineering designs from concept through release, ensuring compliance with engineering, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles throughout the design process to ensure feasible and efficient production.
  • Collaborate closely with PICs, CAD support staff, and cross-functional engineering teams to align designs with project goals.
  • Communicate project status, design updates, risks, and technical issues clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Integrate quickly into existing projects and contribute with minimal ramp-up time.
  • Focus primarily on hands-on CAD modeling, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable, and well documented.
Essential Skills
  • 3–6 years of automotive mechanical or chassis design experience, with direct experience designing physical chassis components.
  • Proficiency with CATIA V6 or CATIA V5 for hands-on CAD design.
  • Strong experience with 3D solid modeling and surface modeling.
  • Proven ability to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D annotated drawings.
  • Ability to independently create, own, and release engineering designs, rather than only supporting or coordinating.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Experience performing basic CAE analysis to support design validation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information and project updates effectively.
  • Primary focus on CAD design rather than electronics-focused chassis work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience designing chassis-related systems such as wheels, brakes, steering systems, fuel systems, and exhaust systems, with particular priority on wheels, brakes, fuel systems, and exhaust systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is preferred.
  • Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Comfort working with both CATIA V6 and CATIA V5, with the ability to learn new data management practices on the job.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new CAD data management processes and tools.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced automotive environment with cross-functional teams.
Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role based at an automotive development center, with work expected on site five days per week. The environment is highly collaborative and engineering-focused, with a strong emphasis on hands-on CAD modeling and close interaction with PICs, CAD support staff, and cross-functional engineering teams. You will work primarily with CATIA V6 and CATIA V5 in a professional office and lab setting that supports detailed chassis design, modeling, and basic CAE analysis. Engineers are expected to integrate quickly into active projects, adapt to existing data management practices, and contribute immediately in a fast-paced automotive design environment.
