Catia Design Temporary information

What is a Catia Design Temporary?

A Catia Design Temporary position is a short-term job where an individual uses CATIA, a powerful 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, to create, modify, or analyze engineering designs. These roles are often found in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing, where companies need specialized design support for specific projects or during periods of increased workload. Temporary Catia Designers typically work on tasks like modeling parts, assemblies, and creating technical drawings. The length of these assignments can vary, but they generally last from a few weeks to several months, depending on project needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Catia Design Temporary?

To thrive as a CATIA Design Temporary, you need strong proficiency in 3D modeling, mechanical design principles, and typically a degree in engineering or related field. Familiarity with CATIA V5 or V6 software, CAD systems, and sometimes PLM tools is crucial for daily tasks. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to quickly adapt to new projects help individuals excel in this role. These skills ensure efficient creation of accurate designs, smooth collaboration with engineering teams, and timely delivery of project milestones.

What types of projects or industries might I work on as a Catia Design Temporary, and how does project variety impact my daily work?

As a Catia Design Temporary, you may be assigned to a range of projects across industries such as automotive, aerospace, industrial equipment, or consumer goods, depending on the employer's needs. This variety means your daily responsibilities can shift from creating detailed 3D models for new product parts to revising existing assemblies or collaborating on prototype development with engineers and other designers. The dynamic nature of temporary assignments often requires adaptability and strong communication skills, as you may need to quickly learn project-specific processes and integrate with new teams. Exposure to diverse projects not only keeps your workday interesting but also helps build your portfolio and expand your experience for future opportunities.

What is the difference between Catia Design Temporary vs Catia Design Contract?

AspectCatia Design TemporaryCatia Design Contract
DurationShort-term, project-basedTypically longer-term, often several months to years
Employment TypeTemporary employment or agency-basedContractual employment with a fixed term
Work EnvironmentOn-site or remote, depending on project needsSimilar to temporary, often on-site or hybrid
CredentialsRelevant CAD certifications, experience with CatiaSame as temporary, with emphasis on project-specific skills

Both Catia Design Temporary and Catia Design Contract roles require similar skills and certifications. The main difference lies in the employment duration and arrangement, with temporary roles being short-term and contract roles often lasting longer. Employers choose between them based on project needs and staffing flexibility.

Job description

Job Title: CNC ProgrammerJob Description

This role focuses on creating high-quality NC programs for the fabrication of precision machined parts using 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines. You will use CATIA V5 to develop, test, and refine programs, ensuring that all machined components meet engineering specifications and quality standards. You will collaborate closely with a small programming team and interact with the shop floor to support program development and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Develop NC programs for the fabrication of machined parts using 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines.
  • Use CATIA V5 to create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for a variety of machined details.
  • Analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, and job orders before programming to fully understand requirements and constraints.
  • Compare programmed results with original specifications and make adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Select appropriate machine types (3-axis and 5-axis), workholding methods, part orientations, and cutting tools for each job.
  • Efficiently program, test, and revise CNC programs to improve cycle time, tool life, and part quality.
  • Provide on-machine support for program development, including proving out programs on the shop floor when needed.
  • Collaborate closely with machinists, engineers, and other programmers to resolve issues and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Meet assigned deadlines and manage workload to deliver programs on time.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to share knowledge, document best practices, and support a collaborative environment.
  • Perform other related programming and machining support duties as required.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of experience programming 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines using CATIA V5.
  • Strong proficiency in CATIA V5 for NC programming of complex machined parts.
  • Hands-on experience with NC and CNC programming for multi-axis machining.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, and job orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to select appropriate machines, workholding, part orientation, and cutting tools for various machining operations.
  • Proven ability to program, test, and revise CNC programs efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on meeting original specifications and quality requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments effectively.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills in a small, collaborative programming environment.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with CATIA V5 3-axis and 5-axis programming is preferred.
  • Experience with mill-turn programming is highly desirable.
  • Background in machining, including CNC mill operations, is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with CATIA design tools in addition to NC programming is beneficial.
  • Experience programming a variety of complex machined details, including multi-axis components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and programming issues in collaboration with shop floor personnel.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills and understanding of manufacturing processes and tolerances.
Work Environment

You will work as part of a small programming team of fewer than five people in a close-knit, collaborative environment where team members actively support one another. The role is primarily desk-based in a programming office, with regular interaction with the shop floor to support program development and prove-outs. You will program a variety of 3-axis and 5-axis machined details, with potential opportunities to work on mill-turn programming. The workplace promotes strong teamwork and knowledge sharing, and dress is business casual.
