Resources & Services Assistant (GLP)
Overview
The Resources & Services Assistant (GLP) participates in the management and maintenance of the tangible
library collection and supports user services at various access points within the library. The Resources &
Services Assistant also supports law library digital initiatives, including maintenance of an institutional
repository, production and content of online user guides, and assists with technology troubleshooting for
library users. The Resources & Services Assistant will also be provided an opportunity to gain library
experience working with both the circulation and the reference and research departments.
Responsibilities
1. Participates in the management of the tangible collection through receiving,
claiming, binding, processing, and shelving new materials, as assigned.
2. Assists with catalog maintenance for electronic resources, such as updating
bibliographic and holdings metadata, URL checking, and batch-loading. Under
the direction of the Systems and Electronic Resources Librarian, will gain an
understanding of the life cycle of electronic resources.
3. Assists library users at the circulation desk and/or the reference desk as assigned
, including providing support for library outreach events and monthly displays.
Under the supervision of reference librarians, may provide research assistance to
students and faculty, as assigned.
4. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Collection Services, orders
books, completes basic copy-cataloging, and assists with tracking the receipt of
new materials.
5. Assists with expense tracking and accounting document maintenance; this will
include correspondence with accounts payable as needed. Will gain an
understanding of library administrative procedures regarding the budget and the
University budget cycle.
6. Under the supervision of Public Services Librarians, supports the maintenance
of LibGuides and content on the library website.
7. Participates in the development of library web pages, user guides, and other
web-based services.
8. Creates and maintains written procedures, guidelines, and training materials for
assigned tasks. Regularly informs supervisor of the status of current
assignments, including difficulties encountered, steps taken, and projects
completed.
9. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Collection Services, and in
collaboration with library staff, completes regular maintenance of the library's
physical collection including location changes, withdrawals, weeding, shifting,
and long-term preservation projects, including relabeling and preparing bindery
shipments.
10. Provides ongoing support for the development of digital collections, such as the
institutional repository, through batch-loading, scanning, editing, and spell-checking
and creation and manipulation of metadata.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree - Incumbent must be accepted into the MSLIS degree program of the CUA Department of Information Sciences
and must remain a student in good standing, making reasonable progress towards the MSLIS degree.
Incumbent understands that their employment in the position will terminate upon their completion of the MSLIS degree.
This position is designated for the Graduate Library Pre-Professional Program, and is open to both currently enrolled and incoming MSLIS students (no classes yet taken).
It is open to applicants with no library work experience. Some experience in a library setting, preferably in a law library, is desired.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:

• Familiarity with legal materials and their supplementation patterns.
