Catholic Religious Education Coordinator

Location: Goldsboro, North Carolina
Job Type: Part-Time
Frequency: Approximately 28 hours per week / 110–115 hours per month

Position Summary

The Catholic Religious Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and supporting a comprehensive Catholic religious education and faith formation program.

The position serves as a primary coordinator, facilitator, organizer, and educational resource for Catholic religious education activities. Responsibilities include program scheduling, curriculum coordination, catechist and volunteer support, religious education events, administrative records, attendance tracking, sacramental documentation, supplies, program communications, and support for children and families participating in Catholic faith formation programs.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, organize, and maintain the Catholic Religious Education program.
  • Coordinate schedules, curricula, classes, and activities for Catholic religious education programs.
  • Assist with development of the annual religious education calendar, program plans, curriculum, resource requirements, and budget recommendations.
  • Coordinate with Catholic pastoral leadership, catechists, and volunteers to support effective faith formation programs.
  • Assist and support volunteers involved in Catholic religious education activities.
  • Provide in-service education and training for catechists as needed in basic Catholic theology and faith formation.
  • Track and provide updates regarding catechist certification status.
  • Coordinate program communications, announcements, and promotional materials for religious education activities and events.
  • Coordinate facility and classroom needs for scheduled programs and activities.
  • Ensure classrooms and other program areas are properly opened, equipped, organized, and ready before activities begin.
  • Maintain adequate supplies, educational materials, consumable items, resources, and equipment required for religious education activities.
  • Lead and facilitate the annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) or an equivalent faith-based educational program.
  • Record attendance for religious education programs and events.
  • Maintain accurate electronic attendance records, participant names, dates, volunteer information, and program rosters.
  • Maintain an up-to-date continuity file for the Religious Education program.
  • Prepare post-event documentation for special Catholic religious education activities.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate sacramental records and related notifications.
  • Attend Catholic staff meetings and provide updates regarding catechetical and religious education programs.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with Catholic faith formation resources and organizations.
  • Ensure qualified adult supervision is present at least 30 minutes before scheduled religious education activities and remains until the last participant under age 18 has departed.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision and safety practices for activities involving children and youth.
  • Ensure facilities used for religious education programs are cleaned, organized, restored after use, and properly secured.
  • Follow applicable requirements concerning copyrighted educational materials.
  • Maintain professional conduct, communication, appearance, confidentiality, organization, and reliability.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Catholic Religious Education leadership experience, preferably directing a Catholic religious education program in a Catholic church or chapel setting.
  • Must be a practicing Catholic who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Must possess a valid Catechist Certificate issued by the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) or complete the required certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the basic doctrines and worship practices of the Catholic faith.
  • Must provide at least one Letter of Recommendation from a Catholic Priest.
  • Must provide two Letters of Reference from individuals who have worked with or supervised the applicant within the previous three years and can verify the applicant’s qualifications and capabilities.
  • Must provide a Letter of Good Standing signed by a Roman Catholic Priest with current priestly faculties, dated within six months of submission.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work constructively with others in a multi-faith environment.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and program-management skills.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, with staff, volunteers, participants, and families.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products.
  • Must understand the basics of planning, developing, and managing a budget.
  • Must meet applicable background screening requirements for working with children under the age of 18.
