Cath Lab Surgical Techs, also known as Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Surgical Technologists, are specialized healthcare professionals who assist physicians during cardiovascular procedures, such as angioplasties and stent placements. They are responsible for preparing and maintaining sterile fields, handling specialized instruments and equipment, and ensuring patient safety throughout the procedure. These techs work closely with doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, often in hospitals or outpatient cardiac care centers. Their expertise is critical in supporting successful outcomes for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional heart procedures.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a cath lab surgical tech?

As a Cath Lab Surgical Tech, your day-to-day duties often include preparing the catheterization lab and surgical instruments before procedures, assisting physicians during cardiac catheterizations, and ensuring all equipment is sterile and functioning properly. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate patient records, monitoring vital signs, and providing support for emergency interventions if needed. Collaboration with cardiologists, nurses, and radiologic technologists is essential to ensure patient safety and smooth workflow throughout each procedure.
