Bartlett Park District is a local government agency that provides 610 acres of beautiful parks and outstanding recreational opportunities for the residents of Bartlett, Illinois and surrounding communities. Major facilities of this Distinguished Accredited Agency and two-time National Gold Medal Finalist includes 44 parks, a community center, indoor aquatic center and outdoor water park, a 9-hole golf course and an 18-hole golf course, event and reception facility, ski hill, athletic field complex, nature center, gymnasium, and more.

Job Summary: 

The Cultural Arts Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in running the Park District Visual and Performing Arts Programs with a focus on theatre and dance programs, plus teaching cultural arts programs. This position will assist with planning, organizing, promoting, and day to day operations of the theatre and dance programs. This position is responsible for assisting with planning, organizing and teaching Cultural Arts Programs and events. This is an at-will position.  Other duties and responsibilities include:

General:

• Gain knowledge and understanding of Park District policies and procedures and see that they are always adhered to.
• Attend Districtwide part-time staff orientations, crisis trainings and other trainings as directed.
• Comply with the District’s Dress Code Policy by coming to work in clean, presentable clothing and wearing an employee name tag.
• Be fiscally responsible working within the budget guidelines given for each area.
• Report to the Recreation Manager weekly (or more frequently if necessary) to relay information and/or issues related to theatre productions or programs.
• Assist in record keeping by taking attendance, filling out accident/incident reports, information sheets, collecting and recording fees, and maintaining individual records, as needed.
• Should be able to work in a team atmosphere, as necessary, promoting positive and effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and external customers.
• Observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations.  The safety of staff and participants is a continuing responsibility of all employees.
• The District encourages its employees to “take ownership” of the District.  As such, it shall be the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Theatre:

• Work with Recreation Manager in hiring Director, Music Director, Choreographer, Orchestra/Band and other positions needed.
• Serve as the Producer and oversee the productions from beginning to end.
• Work with the Marketing team to promote auditions and ticket sales.
• Schedule audition appointments, if necessary. 
• Work with Parks Department on set design and set schedule for completion.
• Arrange for videographer to record show.
• Obtain, assign, and oversee volunteers to work in the following areas of the theatre: Lights, Sound, Stage Management, Publicity, House Manager, Ushers, Costuming, Chaperoning, Prop Acquisition, Make Up, Cast Photo Board, sets and more.
• Comply with and assist in the enforcement of the Cash Handling Procedures.
• Plan, coordinate and run Parent Meetings. Attend first rehearsal to welcome cast; explain Park District rules and policies and answer questions.
• Set up ticket sales and design playbill.
• Order cast shirts.
• Attend a minimum of one rehearsal per week and check with Director regarding the productions.  Be present at each technical rehearsal and performance to ensure success of the show.
• Serves as the contact person for productions during the production run.
• Coordinate the facilities for auditions, rehearsals, dressing rooms, set construction, tech week and the production run.

Programs/Teaching:

• Assist with the development of new visual & performing arts programs and teach independently.
• Assist with maintaining supplies and equipment in a safe and workable condition.
• Set-up/clean-up of the area at the beginning and after the class (program) is taught. Report any safety concerns.
• Be creative with fun class ideas and lessons plans.
• Have good listening skills, pay attention to detail, be patient, and be flexible.
• Possess a sense of humor and create a positive environment for the participants.

Dance:

• Assist with planning, organizing, and promoting dance programs.
• Communicate with instructors, participants, and parents.
• Manage facility booking, rehearsal times, and class rosters.
• Coordinate measuring, ordering, altering, and distributing costumes within the established budget.
• Obtain, assign, and oversee volunteers to help with Dance Recitals and Nutcracker production.

Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent required. Prefer Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Masters in Theatre Arts or a related field. Experience in theatre or dance or combination of experience, education, and training required.  A basic knowledge of lighting and sound preferred. Must be a highly organized individual with general office work experience including basic computer skills. The ability to prioritize and work independently is necessary. Requires strong people and customer service skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public.  Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and be able to provide own transportation.

SCHEDULE & PAY: Varies, based on needs and rehearsal schedules. Approximately 10 hours per week September through May.  Ability to work evening and weekends is required. Anticipated hiring range is $16.25 - $22.00 per hour, DOQ.
