Job description

Role and Responsibilities

The Lead Carpenter will be responsible for overseeing daily on-site operations, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship, and leading a team to complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This hands-on leadership role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in residential and commercial carpentry.

  • Oversee and execute all phases of residential and/or commercial carpentry work on construction projects.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
  • Plan work schedules, assign tasks, and ensure crew productivity on-site.
  • Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure seamless job site operations.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
  • Perform hands-on carpentry tasks, including framing, trimming, drywall installation, cabinetry, doors, windows, and other structural or finish carpentry.
  • Monitor material usage and order supplies as needed to avoid delays.
  • Inspect completed work to verify quality and adherence to plans.
  • Train and mentor junior carpenters and apprentices in carpentry techniques, safety practices, and work ethics.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve construction or carpentry-related issues as they arise.
  • Keep detailed records of labor, materials, and project progress.
  • Communicate regularly with clients or site supervisors regarding job status and updates.
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment properly and safely.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Comfortable reading and understanding blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong knowledge of tools and equipment, with demonstrated ability to operate hand tools, air tools, and power tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong reading, writing, and speaking skills (English)
  • Minimum of 3 years of general carpentry experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics.
