Master Carpenter

Farmington, New York

Pay Range $30-$40/hr

Weโ€™re looking for a Master Carpenter to join our General Contracting team which is based out of our Farmington, New York HQ.

This role requiresโ€ฏextensive high-quality-oriented general carpentry experience, as well as an interest in and aptitude for building high-performance, high-craft custom homes. Members of this team perform framing, window and door installation, siding and exterior trim, interior doors and trim, decking and railings and a multitude of other tasks through the course of a complete home build. Bottom line โ€“ we are looking for the best carpenters who want to be part of the best team. We offer the best pay and benefits package in the industry.

We typically work Monday-Thursday (10-hour days) with Fridays optional for overtime. Our projects are generally within a 1-hour drive radius from our Farmington, NY shop. On occasion we will work in our shop preparing materials for site installation as well.

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years carpentry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems and materials, plan reading, layout, efficient work practices.
  • Industry experiences including: framing, window and door installation siding and trim, interior doors and trim.
  • Excellent math and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Strong work ethics and attention to detail are essential.
  • Valid NYS Driverโ€™s License with clean driving record.

New Energy Works Master Carpenter is the go-to leader for all our young and apprentice carpenters as well as the other project foreman and journeyman within our construction and installation groups.

As an on-site leadership role, this position requiresโ€ฏextensive high-quality-oriented framing & general carpentry experience, as well as an interest in and aptitude for building high-performance, high-craft custom homes.

The responsibilities of this role entail supervising, managing, and directing a small, dedicated crew of carpenters during the installation of work including finished T&G material as well as our prefabricated panelized enclosure systems, with a strong focus on site leadership, logistics, quality assurance, and hands-on management.

The role requires complete understanding of the build process, project scope, and off-site manufacturing of enclosure systems as well as site-management, team leaderships, and employee development/training as applicable. There is also a clear expectation of regular regional travel, including overnights, for this role.

Core Competencies:

  • 10+ years carpentry experience, with 5+ years supervisory experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of building sites, construction planning, crew organization, logistics, and job-site management.
  • Industry experiences including: Framing, Enclosures, Custom Home Construction, and Building Systems.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and managerial skillsets.

  • Willingness to schedule regular project communication with management / sub-contractors, and other appropriate parties of the jobsite needs, status reports, quality reports, and any issues that need resolution.
  • Ensure all employees that are working on a project are costing their labor correctly.
  • Proficient understanding of the contract documents, including but is not limited to the final contract, any other contracted scopes by New Energy Works, change orders, architectural drawings.
  • Understand the outlook of production/construction schedule and line up the necessary pieces to ensure smooth construction, inclusive of material ordering, sub-contract communication, internal New Energy Works labor needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Weekly communication with construction manager and project managers: Status reports, personnel reports, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Recruiting process and hiring of new carpenters as needed.
  • Conducting performance reviews of existing carpenters.
  • Training of carpentry staff: Construction Foreman, Journeymen, Carpenter Apprentice, etc.
  • Ensuring a safe, clean, and professional work environment on all projects.
  • Safety training, toolbox talks. OSHA compliance etc.
  • Tool maintenance and inventory management.
  • Project planning including manpower, equipment, travel, labor estimating, and scheduling.
  • Problem solving.
  • Quality control.
  • Lead and develop a professional, well-organized, and efficient team.

Equipment & Vehicles:

  • Must have/ maintain a valid driverโ€™s license with clean driving record.
  • Maintain proper operation and cleanliness of company vehicles, tools, and other equipment.
  • Reporting of any issues with company vehicles or equipment to direct supervisor.
  • Manage company tools/ equipment on-site and on-campus.
